Parsec,
Where are you when I need you!  I've posted my problem a couple of times but get no answers.  I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Z97 Extreme6 BIOS and or of course W10 v1511 that is causing me the grief.  I have two Z77 Extreme4 systems and they do no have the reboot problem.  They both have W10 v1511 and a full complement of software.  I have three Z97 Extreme6 systems, two with 4790K processors and a full load of software and they both  reboot exactly 24 hours after being shut down!  I also have a Z97 Extreme6 MB with a G3258 processor with almost nothing installed except W10 v1511 and a few free utilities like CPU-Z, HWiNFO64 and Macrium Reflect.  This system too reboots itself exactly 24 hours after it has been shutdown!

I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem on three machines.  But then most people probably don't let their system sit shutdown for 24+ hours.  And/or like me, if they do, think they just forgot to shut the system down when they noticed it was in a sleep state after 24 hours.

Who has some influence with ASRock Technical Support that might be able to get to the bottom of MY problem minor though it may be - but then it's a hobby?  I suppose my next alternative is try a competitor's MB and see if the problem goes away.

Ken, Ken, Ken, I'm here man!! Wink

I do have a life outside of this forum, which has been very busy lately, since I have an actual job. Not to mention trying to enjoy myself occasionally, you know how it is, right? LOL

I must say you have some of the goofiest problems I have ever heard about. Pinch

These "problems" in this case must have a logical explanation. I have a Z97 Extreme6 PC that is shutdown and stays that way. My other PCs don't wake up spontaneously either.

There is no such thing as almost nothing installed, all it takes is one program to put an entry in Scheduled Tasks, and that entry will wake the PC when it wants to wake it. Why would a program like Macrium do that? We just never know. There could also be something coming across your network that is waking the PCs.

That your PCs wake up exactly in 24 hours does not seem like a random event, right?

My point is what you are thinking is a bug of some sort, may have a perfectly logical explanation. Do we really understand everything that goes on in our PCs? No we don't.

Download the free version of CCleaner. Run it and click on Tools, and then click on Startup.

Next click on the Scheduled Tasks entry at the top. Do you see any entries in there? Also check the Windows and Context Menu options for entries.

Anything looks like it could be causing your PC to wake up? You can highlight and choose Disable for any of these entries, without removing them.

This is a start, and I want to know what entries you have in those three areas.

Parsec,
Thanks for the response.  I think it's the air in Indiana.

I'll do the CCleaner trick tomorrow at 1 PM.  Right now I've got the "clean" machine shutdown waiting to see if it REBOOTS exactly 24 hours after I SHUT IT DOWN.  The key words here are POWER>SHUTDOWN and REBOOTS on it's own!  It ain't sleeping it's shutdown and has to reboot to do it's thing.

Anyway, I Disabled the Intel Smart Connect Technology option in the BIOS in desperation.  We'll see tomorrow if that had any effect.  I doubt it since Enabled is the default setting?

Parsec,
Do you have Smart Connect Technology "Disabled" in the Z97 Extreme6 BIOS?

Problem solved!  Disabled the Intel Smart Connect Technology option in the BIOS and the Reboot issue goes away.  Apparently the ASRock Extreme6 BIOS implementation of the Z97 chip is a little different than the Extreme4 Z77 implementation.  The Default setting on both MB's was Enabled yet the Z77's (at least mine) don't have the Reboot "problem".  The guys on the Malwarebytes Forum jumped all over me when I tried to blame that program.  They directed me to the BIOS issue almost immediately!

No, one of the first things I Disable when configuring the UEFI. I don't think it is even enabled by default on my Z170 board, or X99.

Sorry, but another example of if you don't want it or know what it is, Disable it!
