I have this board on a rig I built in 2012: ASRock X79 Extreme9 LGA 2011. Started out, would have to startup a couple times for it to catch boot. Then wont catch boot at all. Was able to check HD, power supply and video cards in a similar machine, all ok.. Have the machine down to Revo drive (with operating system) 1 video card, and all the same memory as before. It will now catch the boot maybe every other time but it goes to the Motherboard's splash screen and nothing i do will get the mouse to respond to the splash screen. I was unable to find a wired keyboard with only the serial port connector but I have an adapter to convert usb to old timey mouse port but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Don |

I've had problems with mouse and keyboard detection during the startup/POST phase of my X99 board, which is similar to X79 in that both are the Intel HEDT chipset platforms. Both of these systems tend to have a long startup/POST time, due to the complexity of the platform. They have quad channel memory, more PCIe lanes than the "mainstream" Intel platforms, and they are both enterprise oriented chipsets, which are not designed for quick starting. I don't understand exactly what your issue is. Is the problem with keyboard and/or mouse detection causing you to be unable to get into the UEFI/BIOS UI? You also mention the failure to boot and getting to the splash screen. Are you saying you cannot get into the boot menu? The Revo drive sets off red flags for me. As an owner, you must know they can be finicky, slow to POST and get started. Which Revo drive are you using? When I have occasional keyboard detection issues, I use my old-timey PS2 keyboard in the PS2 port on the IO panel, which ASRock still provides on their latest boards. I am unsure if a USB to PS2 adapter will cause a USB keyboard to function as a true PS2 keyboard. I also use a wired USB mouse, as simple as possible, when I need it. Wireless mice of several types I have all fail when I experience this issue. Actually, many times just having the PS2 keyboard and wired USB mouse connected to the PC will cause the wireless keyboard and mouse to magically work. One tip, do NOT use USB 3.0 ports for keyboards and mice. Only use USB 2.0 ports, as they will be active before USB 3.0 ports will be, particularly on older systems. The Windows version you are using also makes a difference. Please help me understand what will help you, simply getting the keyboard and mouse to respond, or something else? windows 7 is OS, if i could get into bios with regular mouse I could boot to windows. When it does boot everything regarding revo drive looks the same as before it stopped booting i took it out and put in another machine and it booted right up to windows. here is drive info: OCZ RevoDrive 3 series PCI-E 240GB PCI-Express 2.0 x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) RVD3-FHPX4-240G I guess I will look for a true old time keyboard.

It sounds like you are losing the setting of the Revo drive as the first entry in the boot order. Then you try to get the boot order screen to appear, but you can't because the keyboard does not respond to your input, or appears to not respond. Are these two statements correct? Given your description of the problem, and its progression, the PC booting from the Revo after a few retry's and now not at all without manual intervention, I think the battery in the board needs to be replaced.
