Subject: ASRock X470 Taichi BIOS, CPU and RAM upgrade help!

Hi guys!

Currently, I have an ASRock X470 Taichi motherboard (BIOS P2.00) along with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X and 32GB (2x16GB) G.SKILL DDR4-2400 RAM (running with XMP at 15-15-15-39 1.20V).

I would like to upgrade my CPU and to go to the newly released https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-5700x#product-specs" rel="nofollow - AMD Ryzen 7 5700X .

Questions:

1) As I saw in my https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470%20Taichi/index.asp#CPU" rel="nofollow - motherboard's CPU Support List , Ryzen 7 5700X is supported under version P4.70 of BIOS. Therefore, if I want to upgrade to Ryzen 7 5700X do I must upgrade my BIOS to P4.70, before install the new CPU?

2) Can I upgrade directly to P4.70 from P2.00? Or I must go to some Bridge version before P4.70?

3) Do I firstly have to uninstall/install any AMD drivers in my system (I am running Win 10 Pro 64 bit)? If yes, then in which order?

4) What fast and premium DDR4-RAM do you propose at 16GB (2x8GB) to upgrade also? If I remember well, there was some compatibility issues with memory controller of Ryzen 7 2700X (or chipset?) and Single-Rank - Dual-Rank sticks about speed (MHz). Does this apply to AMD Ryzen 7 5700X too?

Thank you.

1. Yes, you will need to update the BIOS before installing the 5700x
2. Unless there is a bridge BIOS listed in your board's update list between your
current version and the latest version then you can update directly to the latest
version. So yes, you can update directly to p4.70
3. No, there is no need to remove the AMD drivers
4. Check the support list for your board: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470%20Taichi/index.asp#MemoryRN
That is for 4000 series CPUs but compatibility should be identical.

Good luck with the upgrade

Also, make sure to restore factory defaults in your UEFI (BIOS) before updating.
this will reduce the risk of a bad flash. It is never wise to update without restoring
defaults first.
