Quick question, is it safe to have both 8 pin and 4 pin 12V power connectors connected at the same time? I've gotten mixed messages and would like a clear answer that I haven't gotten from the manual.

Yes it is safe to use the 4 and 8 pin together.
I don't know where the mixed messages come from, but it's nonsense.
Modern PSU's always have an 8 Pin, and under normal circumstances this is sufficient.
When you start to overclock to the limit, it is best to add an additional 4Pin.
The 4 pin is really additional.
Overclocking requires a higher amperage flowing through the pins, and through the multilayer board, it is always best to devie the load over the 8 Pin and 4pin connector
When You have a PSU, with only a 4 Pin CPU power connector, it is best to replace it with a decent PSU, like the ones from Seasonic

Kind Regards
