OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme6
Problem: Bottom 2 USB ports on back of system are not working but all devices appear to be installed in device manager

Last night I stayed up way too late trying to fix a USB problem that I am having with no success. My case has 4 front USB ports (2 2.0 and 2 3.0), and the back of the case has 6 USB 3.0 ports.

The top 2 USB 3.0 ports work fine, and I have my G710+ keyboard plugged into both of those. In the USB 3.0 ports that are next from the top I have my APC  Backup UPS RS 1500 data cable plugged in as well as my Mad Catz R.A.T. 9. I've tried a number of devices in the next ports, but I cannot figure out a way to make them work. I have a scanner that I would love to leave plugged in as well as a USB hub. I don't want to have those plugged into the front ports since I use them for my wireless headset, wireless AC adapter for WiFi, thumb drives, etc.

Last night I noticed that these ASMedia USB 3.0 ports were not even showing up in the device manager. I restarted my system to UEFI and enabled everything under the advanced USB options. After restarting I still didn't see anything. I don't recall shutting down my system, but for some reason the ports are working today. I don't know what the heck is going on here.

Your board has USB 3.0 ports provided by the Intel chipset, and an extra ASMedia USB 3.0 chip.

Win 10 uses its USB 3.0 drivers for all the USB 3.0 ports. The ASMedia USB 3.0 ports may not like the Win 10 USB 3.0 driver. But, I'm not sure which ports are connected to the ASMedia chip. I'll try to check on that.

When you said the "bottom USB 3.0 ports" don't work, do you mean the ports on the board's IO panel, next to the lower network input jack?

The ones I referred to are the ASMedia ones as per the manual. You have the 4 USB 3.0 ports that are real close together. The higher ones (since my tower is a standing tower) are the Intel, and the lower ones are the ASMedia. I am having problems with those ASMedia ones. I had to confirm that before I left for my classes today. On page 10 of the manual they are no. 12, right next to the onboard sound card connections.

I am having the same problem. for z97 extreme board with the same usb ports. When I look in Device Manager there are some usb ports not working which i am assuming. It first said the asmedia 3.0 usb are not functioning. removed and rescanned. same problem. Says drivers are up to date.

Any resolution?
