The specs on asrock.com are unclear. Excerpt:
Slots CPU: - 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 Slot (PCIE1), supports x16 mode* Chipset: - 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 Slot (PCIE3), supports x4 mode* - 1 x PCIe 3.0 x1 Slot (PCIE2)*
First of all, not clear why this is split by CPU/Chipset, this is slots. Typo? Bad editing?
Second, only the PCIe 5.0 slot says it supports x16 mode. But does it also support x16 for a PCIe 4.0 card plugged into this slot?
The PCIe 4.0 slot specifically mentions it only supports x4, and the last slot is PCIe 3.0, so those are out...
I have a PCIe 4.0 x16 GPU and want to be sure this motherboard fully supports it before I build.

OHHHH... Does this mean "ALSO supports x4 mode?" (but still x16?)
Again, it's a but unclear, but ALSO makes more sense.

nope it's a port that supports x4 at most. but you can stick a x16 card in and it will run on x4 instead since thats all you have. but as such it limits the upper bandwidth of some cards. that actually need more bandwidth.

Oh, now I get the CPU/Chipset thing, the first slot (PCIe 5.0 x16) uses CPU lanes, the others use Chipset lanes, right?
And I'm 99% sure, since PCI generations are supposed to be forward/backward compatible, it means, since the 5.0 slot supports x16, a 4.0 x16 card in that slot should be able to run at x16, just limited to 4.0 features.
But I'm not a total expert at PCIe, and want to be sure, before I build my new machine.
