My pc started failing. Its a heat issue. build 2016
Most things set to auto. Mobo is sending 1.78 volts to cpu, cpu only requires max 1.36v. When I try manual set, no boot.
Whats up with the extreme voltage at basic default settings. using FW 1.4 i7 6850K H100iGTX liquid cooler

Could be that the old BIOS wasn't dynamically adjusting the voltage like it should. That can happen when corrupt values crop up over time and prevent the power saving features from kicking in. You may have been able to resolve the issue by simply removing the CMOS battery and leaving the system disconnected from power for 20 mins or so after pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds. That would also clear bad values. Updating the BIOS refreshed everything and had the same effect.
