Hi all,
I am desperately hunting down a severe issue with my new mainboard (X670E Taichi), which I have bought explicitly because it features four additional SATA-Ports to support my legacy Hard Disks.
However I am experiencing a lod of Bluescreeen-Crashes with my disks being referenced in a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) - Driver has failed to complete a power IRP within a specific time.
I have did some research and was able to isolate the problem and think is linked to Harddisks attached to the SATA_A1-4 ports supported by the ASMedia additional controller.
I am curious if someone had the same issue with this board combo as I am unsure whether it is a defect on the board or not.
Regards

I also searched online, and it appears that ASMedia SATA controllers do have a problem. Considering how long SATA has been around, ASMedia not being able to implement a properly working controller seems ridiculous.

I don't have a good suggestion here.

1. Maybe pursue firmware update for the ASM1061 chipset, and/or look for the latest ASMedia drivers, which might possibly fix the issue, as unlikely as it is.

2. Give up on using those ports and pursue an alternate solution. I myself have built a FreeNAS, urr I mean TrueNAS box using an LSI SAS9211-8I card. It was bit of a pain to switch it to IT mode firmware, but I don't think you'll find a more reliable SAS/SATA set up. Yes, it's an old design, and there are newer version of it with faster PCIe interface, but for my use, faster PCIe interface didn't matter.

3. I guess, you can return the whole thing and look for an alternate solution. But there probably aren't other standard motherboard solution with so many SATA ports NOT using ASMedia controllers.

Hi There...

the ASMedia SATA controllers dot not have any issue, the issue arises because of microsofts storahci driver, you have to use the asmedia 1061 drivers and set AHCI Link Power management to HIPM....

Well, if there's a driver/configuration workaround, that's better than nothing, but considering AHCI is a very well defined standard (by Intel), I still say it's sad that ASMedia can't get it to work properly with a standard driver.

Admittedly, it's also possible that Microsoft standard driver is broken (against the AHCI spec), but that seems pretty unlikely.

Whatever is the case, I hope gunhawk can get everything working properly.
