Hello, I have a problem and hopefully someone can help me.

Quick info:

Asrock Fatal1ty z170 gaming-m-itx/ac  - BIOS 2.10 CURRENT
Brand New Build
Fresh Windows 10 Pro - 64 bit
Audio Receiver, Yamaha RXV -580 (just released May '16)
New, tested 18gbs Ultra HD HDMI 2.0 cables.
All hooked up to a 65 inch 4k 60hz Vizio TV
Newest Intel HD video drivers (june)
Updated HDMI firmware to most current version.

My Problem:

The board has two HDMI outputs -  port 1 is a 4k 30hz port, port 2 is the 4k 60hz.

If I connect my receiver to the board on the 30hz HDMI 1 port, I can passthrough any audio format - both regular surround (dolby digital, etc) and HD audio (DTS HD Master Audio, etc).  Everything is fine.

When I then move the HDMI cable from HDMI 1 up to HDMI port 2 (4k 60hz HDMI) - I get 4k 60hz, regular surround audio, but NO HD audio, it simply wont send out those format / signal over the port.

I have pulled my hair out trying every trouble shooting thing I can think of, from a fresh windows 10 install, different intel audio drivers, different cables, you name it and cant figure it out.

Can anyone help?  I really want to utilize the 60hz 4k HDMI port with HD audio pass through.

Thank you!

I have the same issue and in the beginning I also had problem with video signal and this was fixed when I got a new board due to damaged MC2800 chip.

I have contacted ASRock about the audio issue on port 2 but they only push this to Intel and say that it's Intel's driver that has the issue and not ASRock/MegaChip.

I believe that the issue are indeed in the ASRock MB or completely on the MC2800 firmware. Still this is denied by ASRock that do not help in this issue at all. This is really bad!

I have tested this a lot and it seams to be related to bandwidth issue. I can sometimes get HD sound work when the data rate is low and when it is 6 channels or less. But with 4k@ 60 Hz 4:4:4 with HD audio at 8 channels it fails completely.

I thing ASRock has a big role in this and need to come with something when you pay for a premium hardware. I'm also surprised that there is not much talk about this and ASRock say nothing in the open forum to help in any way.

I hope even if this thread is old that more add there issues here so it get more attention.

I have contacted Intel to here there view of this and I will post it here when I get more info. I will also try other test to prove the bandwidth issue if I can get any good test result.

ASRock MB is still broken after 2 years!

More then 1 year ago I have my last contact with ASRock and they told me that HDMI port 2 did not work and it was a Intel driver issue. Last month in February of 2017 ASRock delivered a new firmware for the Japanese MegaChip that is part of the HDMI 2.0 converter. After this update the HD sound started to work. So yes it was a failure on ASRock side and not Intel. BUT! the sound drops constantly when playing over HDMI 2.0. So it still not work and 2 years have passed. Intel have also delivered updates in February 2017 but the last 6 months this updates from Intel have been game related updates and nothing with sound.

I believe that ASRock just now do not care about there customer and the fact we paid a premium price for getting HDMI 2.0 that never worked! This is not acceptable and I recommend that you should be extra careful when consider buying from ASRock again.

It will never be fixed! And I could bought a more cheaper MB with HDMI 1.4 and skip all hours I spent on this.
