Hello
I have a z77 extreme6 with an i7-3770k and 16GB DDDR3 memory 1600 Mhz

I have a gtx 970 and gtx 670 in the pcie 16x slots, each running and pci 3.0 8x which is expected.

I want to move the gtx 670 which is used for cuda based stuff to the 16x slot at pcie 2.0 x4 speed (Max 2 GB/s). It seems the bandwidth will be fine through the z77 chipset as I have monitored it when in its present slot. Most of its power will be gained through its pcie express power connectors, 1 of 6 pin, 1 of 8 pin.
Will doing this cause any potential issues.

To do this I will need to get another case for space and will make sure there is ample cooling.

The reason I am looking to do this is to free up one of the pci express lanes for a very fast SSD. It will have pcie 3.0 8x bandwidth available which I think is up to 8 GB/s.
There is a bios update available to recognize NVMe SSDs.
I will be using it for a cache and not a boot drive, so are unsure if the BIOS update is necessary. My system is very stable and do not want to update the bios unless necessary.
Will the drive be recognized by the OS and have full bandwidth available of the installed PCIe SSD without a BIOS update.

Thanks
