Hi,
I've built my pc but now i can't get it to post. I have an iextreme 6/3.1 mobo, 2 x GTX 1080, i7 6800K and 32GB RAM.
The RAM ive tried it GSkillz DDR4 3200Mhz (4 x 8GB) and also Corsair DDR4 2400Mhz.

The board debugger shows error code 53 if no RAM is inserted and 67 (or b7) if I insert any of the RAM.
Ive tried putting 4 sticks in the A1, B1, C1 and D1 slots and also, just having one in the A1 slot.

Ive run out of ideas and don't know what else to try, can anyone think of anything else.

My system is fully liquid cooled so I'm kind of restricted in changing too much without draining it and tearing it down.

The error messages point to a memory error but, idk what else to try.

thanks,
mango

Ouch, the liquid cooling is all in already.

This is why we breadboard before adding a custom loop Cry

If you are using flex tubing then you should be able to pull one of the GPUs and hold it away from the board while you test. Try with 1 gpu and a single RAM module. Move the RAM module from a1 to a2 to b1 etc and try all the slots. I have often seen particular RAM banks not work for one reason or another (usually improperly seated CPU).

I know this is probably a silly question but have you tried clearing CMOS? You would be surprised how often this fixes post issues.

I just noticed your CPU is the i7 6800k. The problem could be as simple as your board does not have the correct BIOS version to support it.

You will need BIOS 3.0 or later to support the 6800k. Check the sticker on your BIOS chips for what version you have. If it is not 3.0 or higher you can either install a supported CPU (Haswell) and update the BIOS or, if you don't have access to a Haswell 2011 CPU you can purchase a new BIOS chip from ASRock preflashed with the BIOS version of your choice.

Visit the http://www.asrock.com/support/index.asp?cat=RMA" rel="nofollow - support page for more info.

Hi,
I'm not sure where to look for the bios version. On the actual chip, it says P1.00, is this the bios version do y0u think?

Ok, after reading more about it, im almost certain the the problem is the bios version.
Thank-you for pointing that out, I was losing the will to carry on lol :)

Ok, so now to sort it, I don't think I have access to another processor and the replacement chip seems only available in north America, I'm in the UK.

Do you have any other suggestions for me either getting the chip or updating bios?
there must be a chip I can get my hands on I'm sure.

thanks again though, you've perked me up a little now :)

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Extreme63.1/?cat=CPU" rel="nofollow - Here is the supported CPU list for your board. The easiest way to sort it would be to borrow a chip that is supported on "all" BIOS versions. Alternatively you could take the system in to a Tech shop and ask them to flash the BIOS for you, it will likely be fairly costly though as they will probably bill you at least an hour's labor.

Yeah, im going to try my local store tomorrow, better than me changing the chip or buying a cpu.
Can't hurt to ask.

I can drain the loop, thats no prob, idk if theyll be able to flash without me re-filling or if they can do it, ill give them a call and ask.

Once again, thank-you for your help, im back on track again now :)

Happy to help, best of luck and let us know how it goes.

This may be a silly question but... is the chip on the board soldered or is it just push in?
Thanks.

With the exception of "CPU onboard" motherboards from ASRock all new motherboards use a socketed BIOS as a safety feature to allow users to recover from bad BIOS flashes.

Awesome1

And am i correct in saying that, as this board has dual bios, I only have to do one of the bios chips.
I can then update the other once Im up and running?

According to the specs for all ASRock dual BIOS boards, it will take a little trick to do that.

For example:

Note this states, "For the sake of system safety, users cannot update the backup BIOS manually".

Which should mean, if the backup BIOS (BIOS_B) is selected with the jumper or switch, a BIOS update cannot be performed on BIOS_B.

I have never tried this personally, and have never heard of anyone saying they were able to update the BIOS_B.

Assuming this is correct, what can be done about it is this. The Broadwell-E compatible BIOS version (I assume) is in the BIOS_A socket now. You can simply exchange the BIOS chips, putting the chip in the BIOS_A socket in the BIOS_B socket, and vice versa.

Next, you select the BIOS_B with the jumper or switch, and then perform the Secure Backup UEFI operation, to copy it to the chip that is now in the BIOS_A socket.

Finally, when that is complete, set the BIOS selection jumper or switch to BIOS_A, and you are done. You should check that all your settings in the BIOS are as you need them, once you change to BIOS_A.

The first Broadwell-E compatible BIOS version then becomes your backup BIOS version, which is what you want, when using either a Haswell-E or Broadwell-E processor.

Thanks for the detailed post Parsec, that's what I was thinking too.

@Mango, if you get your BIOS updated at a store then follow Parsec's instructions to sort out BIOS B. If you are purchasing a new BIOS chip you can install it in socket B from the start and just have BIOS B selected with the jumper the secure flash it to BIOS A and you are good to go.

Ok... so...
I replaced the bios chip with a V3, did this myself, was easy... biggest part was draining the system. to transfer settings from A-> is easy, option in bios to transfer bios version from one chip to the other. Its just a simple switch on the mobo to select A or B chip to boot from.
So, the good news is, it boots, I can get into bios and have even installed windows, took less than 10 mins to install.

the problems I'm having now are;
- If I restart the comp, it powers up for a few second and then shuts down, I have to manually power up again. It does this every time.
- My ram is 3200Mhz but shows as.. 2600. I load xml profile and it shows the ram running at the correct speed. however, when I do this, it dropd the cpu clock speed from 3.4 to 2.6. Theres an option in the xml profile to alter the BCLK which ups the cpu speed to the correct value. However, when I save and restart, it loses the settings of the BCLK so I can't seem to get the ram and cpu both running at the correct speed.
- Lastly, my win 10 keeps saying im missing some network protocols. I don't mind about this, im sure ill find a way around it. I'll try a different version of windows 10.

Bottom line is, my PC is up and running :D
The problems above are just tweaks, im sure of it so i'll have fun trying to figure it out.
any pointers would be appreciated though :)

Thanks, mango
