Hello all, Recently I got ASRock Z97 Pro4 motherboard and Intel i3-4170 CPU to upgrade my old setup. I removed everything from my case including old motherboard which is ASRock H61M-DGS with Intel i3-2100 and I placed everything on my new MB. After starting a PC everything went fine PC boots I made a few changes in BIOS for dual monitor setup and then I done clean install of Windows 10 Pro on my PC. After installing Windows I installed ASRock drivers from CD I got when I buyed MB. After I finished installing all drivers from CD and drivers for graphic card and some control softwares for checking PC temp I noticed that GPU temp is getting higher and higher so I decided to check a GPU fan and suprise was there GPU fan is not spinning (I own nVidia GeForce GT 740). As this card is bit older and doesn't have feature for fans not spinning if it is not under load I was suprised. I removed everything from case and installed old MB and everything went just fine fans are spinning perfectly so graphic card is not a problem. I contacted nVidia live support and we established that graphic card is working fine and it should have some connection with MB. Every help is welcome I want to play games and do stuff on PC without having a problems with GPU which works fine just no fan rotation. Unless your new Z97 board has a problem with the PCIe x16 slot, there is no way a mother board can cause the fan(s) on a video card to stop spinning. You should check that your 740 is fully seated in the PCIe x16 slot of the new Z97 board. You should also check that after you have tightened the screws that hold the card's mounting bracket to the PC case. Sometimes that can pull the card and move it out of place. Be sure the locking latch on the PCIe x16 slot is pushed up after you put the card in the slot. Does your 740 have a 6 pin power connector, or not? Some versions do, others don't. You still had a video signal from your 740 to a monitor, even though the fan was not spinning, is that right? If that is true, your 740 was getting power so the fan should be spinning. Which PCIe x16 slot are you using? The PCIE1 slot, or the PCIE3 slot? When you tested the 740 with your old mother board, is that with the same Windows installation as you are using with the Z97 board PC? Are you sure that the software you installed for the 740 (driver, utility program) is the same as those used on the other PC, and are configured the same way? I cannot find any good information about your MasterCase 450W PSU. Does it have a 24 pin ATX power connector? I wonder about the quality of this PSU. What BIOS changes did you do for a dual monitor setup? Is that using the 740 and the Intel graphics at the same time? ------------- http://valid.x86.fr/48rujh" rel="nofollow">

I checked everything GPU is well seated trying both PCI slots same stuff. On the old MB which is ASRock H61M-DSG ecerything was working fine using Windows 10 Pro edition on both MB. My 740 doesn't have 6 pin connector and my PSU is few years old and it have 24 pin ATX connector. I don't see any reasons why GPU fans won't splin or it could be that graphic card isbgetting power from PCI but fan needs 6 pin connector to be fully operating. |
