| Hi, I recently built a pc with a h97 anniversary mobo with a pentium g3258 anniversary unlocked hoping to overclock. In the bios, I couldn't find a way to overclock my cpu when i updated to the new version 1.60. Is there a way for the overclocking options to appear in the bios |

So you are saying that an earlier UEFI/BIOS version, such as 1.40 or 1.50, gave you the ability to overclock your G3258? Normally only the 'Z' chipset boards, like a Z97, are the only ones able to over clock a CPU. For a while, ASRock had the "non-Z OC" feature available on some boards, but Intel made ASRock remove that feature.  ------------- http://valid.x86.fr/48rujh" rel="nofollow">

You will need to use an older BIOS version prior to the removal of the overclocking features. As Parsec noted, ASRock removed the feature due to issues with Windows 10 and overclocking on non-Z boards. Intel obviously did not want overclocking to be available on non-Z boards from any manufacturer. -------------

I would try 1.40, its the one before microcode 19 was added (microcode 19 disables the OCing features). -------------

I hope you are right about the 1.40 UEFI version being the one that should enable the non-Z OC feature on this board. I say hope only because I don't know which version is the one that will enable it.  It was not the first version, I'm pretty sure about that.But several things worry me about this: When this feature was removed by a UEFI/BIOS update, weren't the UEFI/BIOS versions that enabled it removed from the download pages too? I don't recall if that is true or not! As you said, it is the microcode version that was the thing that killed this feature. Microcode is not always changed/updated in a UEFI/BIOS update AFAIK. Meaning if another UEFI/BIOS version does not change the microcode, the microcode we don't want will remain in this case, and the feature will not be enabled. The good news in this case is the 1.40 UEFI/BIOS does change the microcode, apparently for two reasons according to the description. One thing I do recall is wasn't there a Windows update that also killed off this feature? Remember that? The details about it I don't recall, such as did it include Windows 7, 8, and 8.1? AFAIK the BIOS can be reverted and OC features restored. I have not seen this done on an H97 Anniversary board but I know for fact it has been on the B85 Anniversary and other B85/H81 boards. I am fairly sure they didn't pull down the supporting BIOS from the downloads pages. All the "Anniversary" series boards supported OCing out of the box from the first BIOS. As Parsec said, microcode updates can be tricky, often not reverting when back flashed to previous BIOS versions. This was not the case with the B85 and H81 chipset boards so I am hopeful it will not be a problem for your H97 either. I suspect that there was a microcode included in the previous BIOS versions that allowed the OCing to begin with so it overwrites microcode 19 when flashed back. -------------
