Hello!

I just bought some pc parts and I´ve just build a new pc :D
I got 2 sets of [Ripjaws V] F4-2800C15D-16GVRB  (32gb) and 2 Samsung 950pro (256gb).

I have a ASRock Z170 OC Formula mobo and I installed them without any problems.

About the DDR4:
Everytime I set the ddr frequency to 2800, the mobo won´t start again and the mobo´s led diagnostic points to memory not detected.

I have to reset the UEFI and let the system set the frequency so that it can work but the frequency that the UEFI sets is waaaaay lower than 2800 (it sets to ~1800...I don´t remember ir very well).

I would like to know if there is anything that I can do to solve it. Did you encounter anything related?

About the Samsung 950 Pro:

I´ve properly installed them but they don´t show up in the storage option on the UEFI screen. However, on the system browser, they are listed there.

How can I make them work/be listed? I will install win10 on it but I don´t know if it´s working if they aren´t listed....

thank you!

G.Skill guaranteed tested compatible kits for your Z170 OC Formula.

Odd that the 4GBx2 F4-2800C15D-8GVRB http://" rel="nofollow - kit is listed as compatible. Different chips on your F4-2800C15D-16GVRB http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-2800c15d-8gvrb" rel="nofollow - kit?

Contact G.Skill support http://www.gskill.com/en/contact" rel="nofollow - HERE either by phone or email and inquire of the 16GB kit you have and their compatibility with your board.

Someone with SSD experience should come along soon and offer some help here. I'm still old-fashioned and use spinning platters.

Hey Wardog!

Thank you very much for your response!

The kit works partially and I´ve just sent them an email. I will have to wait for their reply. Too weird that this mobo doesn´t support that model. Arrrrrrrrrrgggh AngryAngryAngryAngry

Anyways...I will try some other things later at home (at work now). And I will let you guys know. ;)

About the nvme drives...I´ve just read a post here on the forum and I will try following it´s directions.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks :)

SSD experience? That would be me...

It is normal for PCIe NVMe SSDs like the 950 Pro to not be listed in the Storage Configuration screen. Yes, even the M.2 slot entries on that screen won't include these SSDs.

Why? Don't forget SSDs like the 950 Pro are using the new NVMe protocol, which is not SATA. We've used SATA for so long, that we expect any drive to appear in the Storage Configuration screen. I did too, at first.

For example, if we had a USB flash drive connected to the PC, does it appear in Storage Configuration? No, and you would not expect it to do so. For similar reasons, neither do NVMe drives. If you were using a SATA M.2 SSD, or other non-NVMe M.2 SSDs, like the AHCI version of the Samsung SM951, those SSDs will be shown in Storage Configuration.

If you see your 950 Pro's in System Browser, you are fine. Given the appropriate configuration in the UEFI (CSM disabled, or Launch Storage OpROM Policy set to UEFI Only), there will be an entry on the Advanced screen in the UEFI for NVMe drives. All it does is list them there, no configuration options.

It may be possible for the UEFI to be programmed to show both SATA and NVMe drives in the Storage Configuration screen, but currently it doesn't. IMO, it makes sense that NVMe drives are not included with SATA drives. Small learning curve here, but done.

So two 950 Pros? Do I feel RAID in your future? If so, let us know, that has a steeper learning curve.

They do work but not on 2800mhz (best I´ve managed is 2133mhz). :/

Thank you parsec! :) Very good tips!
This is the first PC that I built in 10 years. I was so out of dated that I am strugling a lot :) I will still take some time to figure out this UEFI thing and all of the features from Z170 OC Formula and M2...but I will get there :)

So...RAID?? Is it possible? I´m getting headaches just booting with on M2...imagine a RAID :D
Have you ever seen one?

About the configuration:

On the "Storage Configuration screen, the SATA Mode should be set to either AHCI (default) or RAID". So...since I´m not using the 950pro in raid (yet, maybe? :D), does it matter which one I set?

One friend of mine is helping me configure this and we actually managed to install win10 on it. He installed the samsung magician software and after a few reboots (vga drivers..etc) the pc started to freeze.

Is this Magician software really necessary?

Thank you very much!
