Help! I can't get past a blank screen after powering on a new E5V3 WS with Intel Xeon E3 1225 V5 cpu, 2 x 8GB Samsung ECC memory modules.

I've tried:
- 3 different video cards jn either of the 2 PCIE x16 slots
- leaving only 1 memory module in the slot
- reseating the CPU, CPU cooler, memory, power connections
- 2 different new Corsair PSU, both 80 plus gold rated
- BIOS resort via jumped and battery removal
- no disks, USB ports connected

...but nothing!

The memory, video cards, PSUs all work in my ASRock X99 WS so I know they are not the problem. I don't have another socket 1151 CPU or mobo I can test.

After I hit the power button the CPU fan starts spinning but the screen never wakes from standby. Is my mobo DOA?

My first thought is the RAM may not be compatible but without the model number I can't check that. ECC RAM should be supported with a Xeon CPU however it still depends on the model. Many DDR4 modules will work on say an X99 board but not a 100 series/E3V5 board and vice versa due to differences in the memory controllers between the platforms.

Memory is: M393A1G40DB0-CPB0Q
8GB 1Rx4 PC4-2133P-RC0-10-DC0

I thought these sticks are on the memory support list.

Send a question to ASRock Tech Support http://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp" rel="nofollow - HERE to enquire, but .....

IMHO, no, these sticks aren't supported. They are RDIMMs, not ECC UDIMM.

While a server board may employ Registered(Buffered) DIMMs(RDIMM), I don't see RDIMMs listed for this workstation board. Only ECC Unregistered(UnBuffered) DIMMs(UDIMM).

Yes, to many it's unreasonably confusing.... the minutia of the two types.

On the bright side, assuming I'm correct, ECC UDIMMs are considerably less expensive.

No. They are not listed on the QVL. See my post above as to why I believe they are not.

They are on the support list for the X99 board but not the E3V5 as I suspected may be the case. As Wardog said they are RDIMMs and no RDIMMS are listed for the E3V5. On the up side, you can either use them in your X99 platform or return them and get cheaper unregistered ECC RAM that will be supported on the E3V5.

I am fairly certain that is your problem, I doubt the board is DOA.

OK so I ordered this product from Crucial and it works!

Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 ECC UDIMM, CT8039175

Motherboard is stable as expected and runs great. It's even faster booting than an X99 WS.
