I have a X79 Extereme6 running windiows 10.  Worked properly for about a year but recently it appears the BIOS is occasionally corrupted.  The symptom is that the system will not go into sleep mode or shut down properly.  Trying to shut the system down using Windows 10 shutdown the system will shut down and then turn back on after about 5 sec.  Once I do a CMOS clear and reboot to reload the default bios things work properly.  However after several days the symptoms return.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks,

I'm hesitant to suggest this as depending on just what is causing this seemingly BIOS issue it has the possibility of hosing it completely. So you decide and choose.

What you might try first is installing a new CMOS battery, then and only then, with the new battery installed, clear the BIOS using the Clear CMOS push button on the rear I/O panel. And then enter the BIOS, saving the Default, twice in a row.

As said above, if you've never replaced the battery in your X79 board, that would be the first thing to try. It's a CR2032 battery, very common and about $2.

Also, the X79 platform is very close to the line between Windows 10 working properly, and not working properly. You should install the few Windows 10 drivers and run the Intel INF file installation program from your board's download page:
