The HDD Saver utility does not want to start. It keeps wanting to reboot every time I click on it to use it.
I have my HDD from my previous computer connected as a storage drive and it has everything on it from the old PC I had... I want to turn it off and on as needed.

SATA mode in BIOS is set to AHCI and there is my old OS on this drive.
I can access the drive but HDD Saver not working.

Thanks

Yes, that's why it asks to reboot, so it can do the detection in the UEFI. Just how it works.

HDD Saver is a nice feature, not all boards have it. ASRock may have even discontinued it on their new boards, I'm not seeing it on their Z170 boards. It's more practical on X99 systems since they have 10 Intel SATA ports.

I'd like to see more of it on boards, not less.

What with more and more folks using their boards as low CPU power media servers(Hello the EU) this feature is nice in that it allows electrical conservation without the need for front panel HDD switches such as

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2SY4D45845

Of which there were two of in my media server in the Fractal Design XL R2. That is until they were stolen.

Hmmm, must be either Orico is changing their name to SiSun or they gotten large enough now to rebrand their parts at request. That SiSun above IS an Orico part.

I agree that power saving is a very nice feature. On top of that, it helps me reduce noise. That can be pretty annoying. Many household appliances such as dishwashers/central heating and air conditioning advertise 'quietness'. So do graphics cards manufacturers. This wasn't mentioned in the asrock info.

Yet did it really need to state that to sway you either way?

Rotational HDDs are "noisy' by default and you understood what having HDD Saver meant decibel wise w/o ASRock needing to point the obvious out.

At some point ad copy becomes ludicrous, even redundant.

It's one of those "Captain Obvious' things that doesn't need insinuated nor hinted at.
