" rel="nofollow - I wanted to use DDR3L RAM with this board, since the chipset supports that and there is a BIOS option for this. However, I was surprised that none of these low energy modules appeared in the official supported RAM module list.
I picked out the Crucial CT102464BD186D since the ITX version of the board supports the SODIMM version (CT102464BF186D) of that RAM module. But it's very hard to get it to run. When I manually set the module to 1.35V (low energy) and underclock it to 1600 MHz, it will run. But in auto mode or with 1866 MHz, it will not run.
Is there any more up-to-date BIOS for the board that might be better at compatibility with my RAM? Or did I just pick the wrong version and should have went with the ITX version instead for using low-energy RAM?

Don't count on DIMMs and SODIMMs being similar.
The BIOSes for the new Celeron J Series boards were all compiled with the same base.
I just looked at the Crucial Memory Finder and that DIMM is not compatible wih the J4205-ITX board so it'd be my guess it won't function on yours either.
The QVL that ASRock produces is built with what is compatible in their own in-house memory inventory. It should not be considered anything but a beginning point. Visit the memory manufacturers websites and use what tools they have to check compatibility. ASRock makes motherboards while the mem manufacturers have far more skin in the game selling their product, memory, to you.
I'd suggest contacting Crucial Tech Support and inquire of compatibility with the stick you have. And no. In putting that out there I am in no way blowing you off or passing the buck. Consider it would be impossible for ASRock to have and keep current with all the memory sticks out there for sale.

Hi guys, regarding topic about compatibility of memory modules for ASRock J4205 ITX motherboard I report Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x4GB SO-DIMM DDR3L 1866MHz CL10 (BLS2C4G3N18AES4CEU) works only on frequency 1600MHz in dual-channel mode. It must be set manually in BIOS. Only one module is working when it is set AUTO or 1866MHz.in BIOS.

Thanks for the info. Keep an eye out on your product page for BIOS updates. Compatibility may be better on a newer version.
