" rel="nofollow - I have a 40 lane CPU (i7 6800K) and Taichi Motherboard. I understand the limitatations of the processor mean that one of M.2 Ultra slots (M_1) will function in SATA mode.  But WHICH of the slots is M_1, and which is M_2?  The board layout in the Taichi manual does not indicate which one is which...

" rel="nofollow - With 40 lanes you're golden on both.

pg4:
Quote Storage:

??nbsp;   1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_2), support type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)**
??nbsp;   1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), support type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)**
* If you install CPU with 28 lanes, the M2_1 only supports SATA type M.2 module.

That should make you happy you bought a 40 Lane CPU

And I just realized / noticed.......

M2_2 supports 22110 "length cards, so that would make:

M2_1 the one next to PCIE1
M2_2 the one between PCIE4 and PCIE5

Mistyped owing to regretful/wishful thinking on my part.  The 6800K is 28 lanes.  I took a lucky guess that the M.2 slots would be numbered like the PCI, lowest to highest from the "top" of the board.  Higher number would be between 3/5, as you said, but thanks for the help.

The BIOS config browser also shows where it is as well, but you've gotta be booted (obviously) at that point.
