Does this board support any 32GB ECC sticks, e.g: https://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/ct32g4rfd424a" rel="nofollow - Crucial CT32G4RFD424A  or http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR24R17D4_32.pdf" rel="nofollow - Kingston KVR24R17D4/32 ? I expect it to work if paired with Xeon e5, but I didn't find any ECC modules in the QVL.

Do a search in here. I'm reasonably sure this has been discussed and determined already.

No luck. All the Taichi related posts here are about cpu/ssd support and other issues.

FWIW I'm trying to run 2x  http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR24R17D4_32.pdf" rel="nofollow - Kingston KVR24R17D4/32  on x99e-itx and am hitting issues installing any modern OS.

See the below thread. Or explain what issues you're having if you want to attempt to work past them with the sticks you have.

alkersan, here's the two Threads I was thinking of:
http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3472&KW=&title=asrock-x99eitx-ac-64gb-ram

http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3454&KW=&title=fatal1ty-x99m-killer-possible-with-128gb-ram

Looks like Crucial CT32G4RFD4213 32GB sticks.

I'll contact my "insider' and have them test these on the Taichi X99 and post back here when I get a reply.

And yes. They do have four 32GB sticks on hand and yes this particular Crucial is on a few ASRock X99 QVLs. So it sounds good.

Hang tight.

The specifications for the X99 Taichi state ECC memory is supported with Xeon E5 processors, check the Memory section:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/index.asp#Specification" rel="nofollow - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/index.asp#Specification

Actually, I see an entry for an ECC type of memory in the Memory QVL, it is even labeled as "(ECC)". Although just a 4GB DIMM model, this one:

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/x99-taichi/CT9170626" rel="nofollow - http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/x99-taichi/CT9170626

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/index.asp#Memory" rel="nofollow - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/index.asp#Memory

I suggest waiting for a response from wardog about which ECC memory model(s) are compatible, DDR4 memory can be finicky about compatibility.

That is primarily true for the PC enthusiast, non-ECC types of over clocking DDR4, that the memory manufactures want you to believe works with any of the current three Intel DDR4 compatible systems. That has proven to be false, the XMP profiles on that type of DDR4 memory can cause POST to fail with some memory models.

Yes. That needs stressed. Only while using a Xeon. No i7 support.

Thank you, wardog

I've read the threads you've mentioned and still have doubts. I already have this motherboard and plan to buy Xeon e5-1650v4 and fill it with 8 sticks 32GB each, so I'll end up with 256 GB total. But it would be disappointing to figure out an incompatibility after the purchase.
I've also issued a request to the ASRock Tech Support, but from the posts on this forum it seems that your path via "insider" is usually much faster )

Don't fret over 256GB.

I've been reassured that any and all ASRock BIOSes and motherboards will function with as much memory that any particular processor can physically address. And of course, there's that nasty X99 memory compatibility that must be adhered too also.

The 128GB notation on/in the Specs is a right hand left hand issue. The web page writer obviously is not conscious that 32GB sticks have made their way to market. Unfortunately, the Techs don't author web pages.

I should hear back in another 24hrs or so. Maybe a tad longer. It's the weekend.

PM me in two days though if I haven't yet replied here to keep me on top of this so I don't go off and forget. Yea. sh*t happens every now and then. Me bad Tongue

Dear alkersan,

Greetings, this is ASRock TSD.

This model could support ECC memory and work on ECC function with Intel® Xeon® E5 series CPU.

Because we do not have Kingston KVR24R17D4/32 memory module, we cannot do the test in our lab. But we have the same Crucial CT32G4RFD424A memory module
and it could work well on this model.

Therefore, we have updated the memory support list of ECC memory on website, please refer below link,
http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/X99%20Taichi/#Memory" rel="nofollow - http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/X99%20Taichi/#Memory

Thanks!

All the best,
ASRock TSD

Thank you, that's great news!

And I can finally confirm too that my intended configuration works and passed few Memtests already.
I've put 8 sticks of a Kingston KVR21R15D4/32 memory backed by Xeon E5-1650v4. ( http://imgur.com/a/VcSZm" rel="nofollow - http://imgur.com/a/VcSZm )

I would like to know what other 32/16gb ecc sticks will work the list is rather slim to pick from.

There aren't THAT many manufacturers assembling 32GB sticks, so yea, the picking are slim.

You can't locate the stick(s) that's approved by ASRock_TSD above locally?

There is a 16gb ecc I'm looking that crucial compatibility list says should work(CT16G4WFD8213) but then there's this Crucial Technology 4 x 32GB DDR4 2133 (PC4 2133) SDRAM CT4K32G4LFQ4213 configuration but no compatibility list besides pcpartspicker saying it will work and hopefully later can be upgraded to 256 like dude here with the Kingston.

On the X99 Taichi, it's Crucial's 32GB CT32G4RFD424A

I wouldn't trust PCPartPickers compatibility list on these sticks. Crucials I might, yet I myself have proven them wrong twice already concerning 32GB sticks.

The Crucial 32GB stick I listed above is good, and confirmed my ASRock Tech Support with 4 sticks(128GB) on the X99 Taichi.

Also, I can confirm that ASRock motherboard nor BIOS is limited memory quantity wise.

If the CPU of your choosing can address 256GB of memory an ASRock board will to.

The only reason ASRock didn't test a full compliment of eight 32GB sticks of the Crucial memory I listed is because they only have four on hand with which to test.

I would understand that would be hard for them to have 8 on hand to test with for different memory modules. What would of been great if the specifics of the ECC being supported. Example what base, Rank(4/8) type(LRDIMM,UDIMM,etc) can be supported. And Currently I have A Xeon E5-2690 v4  running regular ddr4. But shopping around for a budget 128gb setup either  8x16gb fixed or 4x32gb with possibility of growth later on.

The full list isn't that slim actually Smile. From what I know today, these 32GB sticks will work:
  1. KVR21R15D4/32 (Used in my system)
  2. KVR24R17D4/32
  3. M393A4K40BB1
  4. M393A4K40BB0
  5. CT32G4RFD424A (Tested by ASRock TSD)
  6. CT32G4RFD4213
  7. CT32G4RFD4266
All are made by the same "formula": dual rank 4bit width, a.k.a 2Rx4 in the datasheet. The frequency is different: 2133, 2400, 2666 Mhz. The last one is more expensive and, probably, will be downclocked automatically to 2400MHz, as Xeon E5 lists only 2133/2400 support.

Similarly, 16GB sticks with 2Rx4 organization should not be problematic too, just check the datasheets.

@mjrstar, the kit you've mentioned CT4K32G4LFQ4213 is not an RDIMM memory (a.k.a registered), but LRDIMM (a.k.a load reduced). It's different by technical specification and I'd stay away from them. The only motherboards I know that support LRDIMM are some server boards from Supermicro and Asus X99-E WS (the http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/Socket2011-R3/X99-E_WS/QVL/X99-E_WS_series_MEMORY_DDR4_ECC_RDIMM_QVL_160929.pdf" rel="nofollow - QVL ). Asrock Rack motherboards also support LRDIMM, but they aren't x99, but c612 chipset based

x4 bank

NOT x8

Ha! 128GB ECC? Budget?
Although you somehow managed to, those two do not belong in the same sentence Tongue

Yeah, that's definitely far off any budget. Memory is still expensive today. I've managed to get a discount for 8 sticks from a small local reseller: 252$ per stick (KVR21R15D4/32). In a few days prices jumped and today I see them selling for $282 per stick on average.

The 32gb selling on Newegg for $260 ish per stick and jet using a discount on the 16gb sticks at around $105 per stick. I trying to decide if to do 4x16gb for $420 or 2x32gb for $520.
