I recently purchased a z170 Extreme6, an i7-7700K processor and Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8gb 3000MHz memory set to upgrade my computer.  I installed a new updated BIOS chip for compatibility with the  7700k, but it will only post if I have the memory in the B1 and/or B2 slots, one or two sticks work in the B slots.  Installing even a single stick in the A1 or A2 slot the computer will not post and Dr Debug just cycles thru 00, 19 4d continuously.  Is this a bad board or is there something else I should try.

Pull the CPU and check for bent pins/CPU warping. If it all looks good reinstall the CPU and try it again being sure to do a full CMOS clear. If that does not get the A channels to work then RMA both CPU and board.

I say both because either could be the culprit at that point, the memory controller on the CPU or a defective board. There was a time I would suspect the board outright but lately the CPU has proven to be the issue more often than not Confused With Skylake and Kaby Lake both using a much thinner substrate we have the risk of warping with over-tight coolers and intel has had some issues with their memory controllers too though that seems to be largely with X99 CPUs.

If you have access to other compatible parts for your system you could try your CPU in another board and a different CPU in your board. That will at least allow you to rule out one or the other and save the RMA hassle of sending both back.

Let us know how it goes and good luck Thumbs Up
