" rel="nofollow - I have a Z270 Extreme4 board. I tried installing a Vantec firewire expansion card into PCIE4, which is a 16x slot. However, BIOS doesn't recognize it as inserted. If I install the card into any of the 1x slots, BIOS does recognize it. Is there something special I need to do to get a 16x slot to recognize a 1x non-graphics card? In BIOS, the PCIE slots are all set to "Auto".

Update:
I'm being told by ASRock tech guy Eric that 16x slots can only be used by graphics cards. How is that possible? So if I choose only one graphics card, then I only have three slots for various expansion cards? That can't be.

I have the Z270m-Pro4 board with an Intel 750 in PCIE4.  Although I ran into problems with BIOS version 2.0, when using version 1.40 that NVME drive is recognized and boots from that slot.  The documentation for my board states "*Supports NVMe SSD as boot disks" in relation to the PCIE4 slot which is an X16 slot.

Thus I think the information you received from that technician is incorrect.
