Hi guys...

Please, I need some help to update my AB350 bios !

Unfortunately, following the asrock bios update turorial didn't work for me (http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=BIOS8)

There's no Instant flash utility tool in my bios setup ! And nothing happens if I press F6 during the booting process.

So... After a little search here in this forum, i found this:

AB350 Gaming K4 BIOS 2.50 DOS
http://www92.zippyshare.com/v/RfX4e1gT/file.html" rel="nofollow - http://www92.zippyshare.com/v/RfX4e1gT/file.html

DOS How To:
http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSUI.asp?cat=DOS

The thing is: I have a doubt of how to proceed with this process... The tutorial says to execute ASRFLASH.exe , but the DOS bios I downloaded has no such file.

Do I need to download this tool, or this is already the DOS file I downloaded ?

I also downloaded the ROM file from the AB350 asrock bios update page... So, I assume that I have to load the  AB35G4_250.exe and make him upload the ROM I downloaded to the BIOS ?

Sorry if it's hard to understand... English ain't my first language. Tongue

All the best !

Rafael

Create a DOS Bootable drive, make positive it is bootable, then copy the AB35G4_250.exe file to the drive, boot up and type in AB35G4_250.exe then hit enter.

It'll take off and flash the BIOS.

Post back your results please.

I had to find the ASRFLASH.EXE on a third party site:

http://www.filewatcher.com/m/ASRFLASH.EXE.272126-0.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.filewatcher.com/m/ASRFLASH.EXE.272126-0.html

Also, you have to create a bootable USB to perform the flash. Here's what I used:

http://rufus.akeo.ie/" rel="nofollow - http://rufus.akeo.ie/

After you create the bootable USB drive you load both the BIOS file and the ASRFLASH.EXE file in the root directory of the USB Stick.

The problem I encountered is that I get an error message when I try to run:

 ASRFLASH AB35G4_2.50

"ERROR 18. Chipset / Flash part isn't available. The function will be invalid."

I tried using another flasher tool called AfuEfix64.efi. Freedos doesn't recognize any commands I enter in.

Any help will be appreciated.

Yeah, I followed your procedure and it worked. For some reason I had to adjust the naming scheme of the bios file.

**Note** If you choose to use the RUFUS tool that i posted, make sure to enter "DIR" to obtain the name of the bios file. It will look something like  "AB35G~1". If you enter the normal name it won't work.

Glad to read you got through it.

Yea. Older vers of DOS and some other DOS compatible(DRDOS etc) file naming convention is limited to 8+3

" rel="nofollow - Sorry to bump an older thread, but I felt this is a relevant thread to bring up my issue.
I was able to make a bootable DOS drive and get all the way to the end of step 4 (http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=DOS8).

However, instead of restarting to a BIOS update it just regularly boots up to Windows. My bios version remains the same.

I'm trying to update form 1.30 to 2.50. Any ideas?

either change the boot order to boot from usb first
or temp dis the hard drive and it will move the usb up to first boot device
then the pc will restart and load the dos files

Thanks. I did both. However, I'm still stuck on 1.3.

Changing the boot order didn't work. Disconnecting the C drive just made it boot back to the DoS directory instead of flashing the new BIOS.

" rel="nofollow - I even tried updating to 1.4 instead of 2.5, but to the same issue.
Any ideas?

try having a quick read here

https://www.howtogeek.com/136987/how-to-create-a-bootable-dos-usb-drive/" rel="nofollow - https://www.howtogeek.com/136987/how-to-create-a-bootable-dos-usb-drive/

you might have to enter the command
dir/p at the prompt to display the directory the bios is in
then type the name of that directory and hit enter

its been quite a few years since i had to play with dos im more than a bit rusty

google is your friend for a quick tutorial on using dos
(and yes i know what your thinking right now and i agree ,its 2017 we shouldnt be using dos for a brand new mainboard)

So far I've created a pendrive version of FreeDOS and MS DOS 98.
I've tried updating to both 1.4 and 2.5.
I've made the pendrive my dafult boot drive and I've also disconnected my windows drive.
Each time I get the same dialogue in DOS as the guide does (https://imgur.com/a/DHPgA).
But I get stuck between step 4. and 5..  (http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=DOS8)

I wouldn't even mind updating from DOS, but the fact that there's really no guides/info to be found specifically relating to AsRock mainboards in order to solve this issue is extremely frustrating. I'm following the damn steps Angry

Thanks for trying to help, though.
