" rel="nofollow - is z97 pro4 supposed to be stable when running Ubuntu 16.04 or Mint 18.1? My experience so far is that it is highly unstable.  Can anyone comment on this? I am trying to use a core i7-4770K processor.

Full system specs please.

Also, is the system stable under any other OS or is it just Linux that is unstable. We can't help you if we don't have any of the details Wink

This is a question best asked in the Ubuntu or Mint Communuty Forums if you want far FAR broader audience participation in answers.

IMHO, I know of no reason it shouldn't. It's a motherboard that an OS runs on, and it's a Z97 which wasn't released yesterday. Linux compatibility should have been ironed out by now I would imagine.

Pretty much the only thing else that's there is an 8GB ram Chip from corsair
also using the onboard graphics of the Core i7-4770K CPU
I do have an SSD EVO Samsung in there to boot from

It freezes sometimes and crashes often when running Chrome or firefox.  When I switch to restricting to a single core, the instabilities are still there but much less pronounced.

I did test the ram extensively with memtest86+.  The full part number of the ram is CML16GX3M2A1600C9.

" rel="nofollow - So it appears that the problem is related to RAM.  Even though the ram tested out ok over an 8 hour period, It still was failing when in the system.  After swapping out the RAM simm with another, the problem has been completely resolved.  Perhaps the connector was not seating 100% even though it looked perfect visually? Maybe bad SIMM? Very strange!
