Subject: X370 Killer SLI BIOS Update Issue

" rel="nofollow - Hi everyone,
I have an X370 Killer SLI, currently running BIOS v1.3. Updating my BIOS seems to be an insurmountable challenge:
1. BIOS update is impossible, as BIOS v1.3 does not allow me to update via Instant Flash. 2. DOS method - The supplied .exe does not run:
a. 'Unsupported 16-bit application' when I run the exe under Windows 10 cmd with administrative access b. USB thumb drive bootable drive (Win 10) gives me something along the lines of 'incompatible system' c. Rebuilt a 32-bit bootable Win 10, exe refuses to run as well.
Downloaded the right BIOS (v2.3) for the right board, so it's not like I got the wrong file.
Is anyone able to help me figure out how to update my BIOS?
Asrock, updating my BIOS shouldn't be this hard.

i agree in 2017 updating the bios with old age dos is pretty shameful however
moaning about it wont get it done so then using windows download the bios file labelled DOS google/search for a program called rufus and create a bootable usb drive follow the instructions on asrock or on here to create the extracted files onto usb reboot with either the usb set as primary boot device or unplug the hard drive and it will use the usb as a boot drive run the dos setup/bios flasher

Let me repeat, I've already created a bootable usb drive, and I've also said that any attempt to run the BIOS executable fails. Booting into prompt via USB isn't the problem, it's just that the supplied exe won't...well, execute. Used rufus, even resorted to Win10's Media Creation Tool, in the hope that would make the difference. Win 7, 10, 32-bit, 64-bit, makes no difference.

try another download of the bios file then and rewrite it to the bootable dos usb stick
it sounds like it wasnt written correctly

Thanks for this; however, already tried this, it's the same file I had, used the file from the link anyway before I posted this, same issue, won't run.

" rel="nofollow - im still thinking if it wont execute then its an issue with 'how' the exe file is written on the usb checking basics here
but you have extracted it first etc ?

" rel="nofollow - Yup, absolutely. Honestly can't think of how else I could copy this, extracted the file onto desktop, drag and drop file directly onto thumb drive, same thing.
Curious, the DOS version, is that designed to work in CMD while in Windows 10?

no please DO NOT EVER TRY ANY WINDOWS BIOS FLASHING
it is such a risky way to try and rewrite the most important firmware ever it is intended to run only in TRUE dos (not a windows shell) the same applies to any windows based flashing tool its far too risky

Thanks for the advice, and don't worry, never tried it. Just curious, as I've done literally everything I could possibly do, but the file just won't run, always throws incompatible system or not compatible with your operating system. This is the only file I can get my hands on, I know of no other way to flash this thing.
As you can imagine, I can't get my 1700 and 3000MHz RAM to go a single increment above stock, fails to POST if I try to change anything. I am on the verge of junking this board and going ASUS.

I also had to upgrade my Bios from 1.3 to 2.3 last week via Dos.
It went without a hitch. I followed the steps I posted in the Gaming section of this forum under Initial Setup after posting.

Hi, I had troubles updating the BIOS too. I tried as you did, then I found out I have the wrong BIOS, then it wasn't updating it, i tried the USB flash and DOS. Then luckily I found out that the BIOS can be updated from the menu itself via internet. Selected update from network and it was ok :)

Hey everyone,
Good news, finally got the exe to work. Turns out it's as simple as using FreeDOS, nothing else works, it will not execute under Win 7, 8.1, 10's DOS boot. Thanks for all the advice and help.
Just wanted to add that I still can't get my Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz to anything above 2667MHz, but it's better than nothing, I suppose.

Glad it worked out!
Very soon your ram will work as intended. Most likely with the next Bios update.
