Subject: BIOS Update fears

I purchased a B650E Taichi Lite motherboard for a new build. I used the Flashback procedures to flash the BIOS to the latest version 3.06. Unfortunately this bricked the mobo and I had to return and order a new one. I went through the troubleshooting steps with Asrock Tech Support but couldn't get the board to post at all. They allowed the return.

I completed the new build with the new mobo without flashing the BIOS and the system is up and running just fine on version 2.03. However, I'd like to update the BIOS to the latest version but I'm afraid of bricking another board.

Should I stay with what I have or attempt to update. What procedures should I go through to flash? Any tips or advice?

Thanks

Dear Customer,
Thank you for the posting.

For this case, if the system is operating normally, we recommend maintaining the current BIOS version.

If you still wish to update the BIOS, please refer to the following link to update the BIOS using Instant Flash tool.

Maintaining the current BIOS version 2.03 means this poster would still be running FW that doesn't have the LogoFail security vulnerability patch. FW 2.06 is needed at a minimum for the security patch. IMO, it is poor advice to recommend customers use old FW that has security vulnerabilities which also prohibits them from improved performance and hardware support should they wish to upgrade their systems.

I really think ASRock needs to take a close look at their entire FW process to ensure customers can upgrade without problems and without being told to continue using FW that has security vulnerabilities.
