Hey all,

I'm a newbie here. Literally just signed up in order to try to get some assistance.

I have read a number of the sticky/pinned posts, which have certainly enlightened me somewhat.

It's been a number of years since I've built myself a new PC, and I don't remember ever having to worry about this level of memory compatibility in the past.
So despite my best efforts, I'm still somewhat unsure of where I stand, and what options I have.

My current relevant Hardware is:

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

MB: Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4

RAM: G.Skill RipJaws 4 - 2400mhz 4 x 8gb (f4-2400c15q-32grb)

I've updated my BIOS to AGESA 1.0.0.6 (v2.50)
and ensured XMP is enabled.

Here is my current CPU-Z info


Edit: I just realised this screenshot was taken pre-BIOS update.
However from memory, the information is still the same. It didn't seem to make a difference. (However, I'll replace the image with a updated one when I get home).

Do I have any chance to be able to get this memory to effectively run at 2400mhz?
Or am I doomed to be stuck at this frequency?

I also have the option of potentially swapping out my memory with a friend who has 

Kingston HyperX Fury (4 x 8gb - 2666mhz). (HX426C15FBK4/32)

Would this work at 2666mhz?

It IS running at 2400MHz now.

DDR runs D ual D ata R ate

So your 1197.6 x 2 = ~2400

Hi Wardog,

Thanks for confirming.
It must have been all the posts saying 4 DIMM's would be restricted to 2133mhz and then the 2132mhz and 1066mhz numbers in CPU-Z throwing me off.

Now I feel like a real idiot. haha LOLEmbarrassed

Things have changed over the years, that's for sure. I'm 57 and if I hadn't been involved for some years that would have me asking that Wink


Can they be run at 2666? Most likely.

I needed to do some spec browsing on that G.Skill Kit you have


Try:

Leave XMP Enabled
Select 2666 from the pull down menu
Change timings to 16-15-15-15-36 and try a CR/T of 1, if not force 2T
procODT to 53.3 (in the timings set menu)
1.1v SoC Voltage
1.25 vDimm
0.65 or even 0.675 VTT_DDR


Post back how those go .........

If 16-15-15-15-36 fails try 16-16-16-16-36/37/38, all with the rest of the above set as I spoke.


These timings and voltage maybe can after benching be lowered/tightened for optimal.

Really appreciate it. :)

I'm probably content with running these at the 2400mhz for now though.
If I decide to Overclock my CPU, I'll probably do the RAM then as well.

But for now, I'm happy to just see how it goes :)
I've only just built the thing, so haven't even gotten to test it properly yet :P

Take your time and learn as time permits.

These new processors are far more cantankerous than those of years past.


Hint: Ryzen is very voltage temperamental. Keep that in mind. Like a prissy lil' Goldilocks, not too high and not too low.
