Did you look at the Memory Support List for your board:

The memory controller is part of the CPU, we don't know which CPU you are using. Depending upon the CPU you use, the maximum Intel guaranteed memory speed supported is 1066, 1333 or 1600.
Finding compatible DDR3 memory should not be difficult, although this platform is a little old now. You need memory that is compatible with Intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge generation processors.
