Just installed the ep2c612 ws, hoping to avoid Asus headaches. HAHAHA!
So have 2 sticks ddr4 2133 ecc rdimm, not on the list, but one worked fine, managed to boot. Only, and here's the rub, would NOT function if in a dimm slot for CPU1, only CPU2! 2nd 32gb stick no dice.
However, was incredibly enough able to post, and get into windows (just swapping ssd, no reinstall necessary! amazing!), just briefly. Of course, troubleshooting the other 32gb rdimm, now get as far as my IBM serveraid showing up, and a couple other things, and then wham! error code 62 and total hang. Figured this was a memory thing, and spent six hours changing the rdimms, but can't successfully complete post anymore. For a while it was looking good!
What I don't get, have at least one good known stick of rdimm, which only works on CPU2, but the damn thing actually posted and booted to win10 pro with just one stick but both cpu's showing (e5-2696 v3 oem pull). So weird.
At the moment, I either have 1 stick that is doa (kingston), or a mobo which is also likely a return resold as new (not cool! but happens a lot here in Norway) with all the dimm's to cpu1 dead.
Dunno here, but was hoping to avoid the Asus nightmare I had with last build, seating and reseating RAM ad nauseum until it worked. Actually go pay for horribly expensive rdimm ecc memory, and well there ya go (not matched, could only find 2 individual sticks over here).
What is it with workstations and the nightmares? My e5-2696 v3's actually work fine, all three of them (have an extra! PM iff interested). But wow mobo and memory..not cool!
At the moment given lack of CMOS reset jumper on this mobo, resorting to power off, draining power when cpu switched off for 20 seconds, take out cmos battery, wait 10-20 minutes, rinse repeat.
Not a happy camper, thought ASRock boards were going to cure my Asus ills...
