I'm putting together a Mini-STX system using the ASRock H110M-STX motherboard, an Intel Core i7-7700 Kaby Lake 65W Processor, a Samsung 960 Pro M.2 512GB NVMe SSD, 16GB of Crucial DDR4 2133 GHz RAM and some other good stuff.

I wanted to post some pictures showing how I added two extra USB 2.0 ports on this small build. The motherboard only has 2 USB ports on the rear (1 USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0, both type A), and two USB ports on the front (one 3.0 Type A and one 3.0 Type C).

That configuration leaves me a little short of what I need for USB ports. So I added two more. Here are the pictures I posted on postimage.org (hope it works):

The USB port on the left (front view) was mounted in the punch-out that exists on the rear of the case. The USB ports didn't fit the punch-out, so I drilled a screw hole to make it so it mounted. It's not as neat as a factory job, but it mounts and I think it works. I plugged in a USB device and it seats in the port.

I had to drill and grind a hole on the right side (front View) of the case. It's not pretty, but it accepts a USB plug, and it's in the back where it's hard to notice. The device I plugged in should work, and that's the idea. The cable clears the fan with room to spare.

I hope the USB motherboard header for the 2 USB connections work as described in the manual. It says that the header supports 2 USB 2.0 connections. I haven't tested it yet. Keeping fingers crossed.

Later: I forgot to mention that the case is a Silverstone SST-VT02B. It uses an external power supply, similar to that of a laptop.

Also, to fabricate the opening for the USB cable port, I used a Dremel tool with a small cutting wheel. I used a drill to make the holes for the screws. It's hard to be perfect.

I purchased the USB cables from an on-line vendor called DataPro (www.datapro.net). I selected this vendor because they have these cables in different lengths. The shortest of which is 12", so that's what I used.
