I have finished a new home-build computer using the H110M-STX motherboard running Windows 10 Home. Everything works properly, except for one situation.

I made a backup image of the boot drive using the Windows built-in backup/recovery utility. Also, I made a recovery (repair) CD using this same utility.

To test it, I checked in UEFI to select an option to boot to the recovery CD contained in an external enclosure. The UEFI has no option other than the Windows Boot Manager, which boots to the C drive.

That is, it looks as if I can't recover my system if needed, because the UEFI has no options to boot to the recovery CD. Is this correct?

If that's in fact the case, is it possible that ASRock can provide a UEFI update to enable booting to a recovery or repair disc?

I like the idea of being able to recover a system backup when and if the need arises.

The external drive you use for the repair disk, what is its interface to the PC? USB?

When you looked for the repair disk in the boot order, how did you do that? Were you in the UEFI interface, and then inserted the repair disk? Or was the repair disk already in the external drive, and you then restarted the PC into the UEFI interface?

When you installed Windows 10, did you configure the CSM option in any way, from its default settings?

Have you tried the external drive and repair disk in another PC's UEFI/BIOS, to check if it is shown in the boot order?

Thanks for the response. To answer your questions, I went back to run through the recovery disc boot exercise again. Sure enough, the UEFI showed no option to boot to the recovery disc located in an external USB drive that was attached at the time computer was rebooted from the Windows 10 desktop.

I thought maybe I should make another recovery/repair disc just to be Shure. Maybe something was wrong with the disc.

After making another recovery/repair disc, using the built-in Windows 10 backup/recovery utility, I rebooted into UEFI with the new disc connected in the external USB enclosure.

I was happy to see that the UEFI now displayed an option to boot to the disc located in the external USB drive. I selected that option and I booted to the disc. Windows 10 recovery procedures then found my backup drive on which I had made a backup image. It works!

Looks like my original disc had some anomaly that prevented UEFI from recognizing it as a boot option. I wasted a lot of time spinning my wheels, when all I needed to do was to make another recovery disc. Who knew? I didn't.

Thanks for your comments. I likely wouldn't have gone back to do what I did without those.

Thanks for letting us know what happened! I'm glad it was something simple like a problem with a disk.

There was really no reason for a recovery disk to not be bootable, as long as it was created correctly. I guess the first disk was just defective.

My intent was to provide the information you asked for. In the process of doing that, I decided to make another recovery/repair disc, just to be thorough. That move resulted in my discovery that the problem was with the disc, not UEFI. I wouldn't call my action inspired, but just a response to your request for information.
