The manual lists ports 1, 3, 5, & 7 to be on top of ports 2, 4, 6, & 8; but the engraving on the MB is opposite (1, 3, 5, & 7 below 2, 4, 6, & 8). Easy way to discover. Plug one in to either 1 or 2 then go into the BIOS to see which port it is on. |

I've got an X370 Taichi here, and the manual image is the wrong way around. I can't post an image because this site won't host it, but as you look down the 2 columns of SATA ports in the manual, it lists 1,3,5,7,9 as left and 2,4,6,8,10 as right. In actual fact, if you were to stand the motherboard up and look directly into the connectors, it's the opposite way around. Closest to the motherboard is 1,3,5,7,9. Why or how they screwed this up I don't know. Something else that got me when I started was the orientation of the CPU installation. The socket and CPU are actually rotated 90°. You read the word Ryzen with your head tilted over to one side. I took a look on youtube but ultimately I just looked for the little triangle. I see exactly what VUMeter sees (except 8 ports, not 10). This is what it looks like in the manual: Note that the left and right columns they are labelled the wrong way around. The right edge is where the motherboard is as you look at it, from the front of an tower case. The closest port to the PCB is the odd number.  However it doesn't really matter I don't think. SATA 0 and 1 (they say 1 and 2) are provided from the CPU I believe, the rest come from the X370 PCH, with the very last two, on my board, from a lane splitting ASMedia chip.

Yeah, well they are what they are. Most USB 3.0 ports are provided by them due to the fact that we've had hubs on boards. Windows device manger will say root hub or such. They are used an awful lot for different tasks, some chips do their job better than others do, however. No response from Tech Support since I emailed them 5 days ago. Disappointed, to say the least. This is my first Asrock motherboard, been using another brand for all previous builds. I know in the scheme of things this is not hugely important but I would have liked to know correct port numbering before I button this puppy up. Oh well, onward with the build, I'll find out port locations when I boot!! " rel="nofollow - For the X370, they are exactly as I described. UEFI will show which drives are where. If you have multiple drivers of the same brand and product code you'll have to use software in the OS to find that out. HWinfo for Windows is rather good at finding all the sensor info. It told me the serial number of each of the two 1TB Seagate HDDs I have, same model drive, two different serials. Ya know that Windows is going to ignore the order you hook up the drives right? It'll put C: the drive which has Windows on at the top and shove other stuff wherever it likes. MS dont want to do anything about it. Not suggesting for a second you are wrong to wish this to be clarified and rectified, but why are yo fussed about which one goes where? I mean it's not like they are on lane-splitting chips like the X370 has?
