" rel="nofollow - TLDR : CPU cant go over 3.57Ghz , possibly looks like Management Engine corruption , updated it , tried different hardware , no change , cpu locked at 3.57Ghz i have a Asrock z77 Extreme4 555 , with a 1155 chipset , with a i5-3570k on it. i bought it from my friend a while back , and always had problems on it . i changed the gpu , ram , hdds , almost everything once , exept the cpu and mobo . always had crashes , bluescreens , and i never found anything on the forums . recently i ordered a 2nd hand gigabyte z77 and i5-3570 to use the old parts and make a 2nd computer . and i saw that computer have turbo boosts when under load (behavior that i never saw in my asrock based computer) and i can see the processor go up to 3.99ghz on the task manager . i went back in my asrock bios to understand why it never goes in turbo mode , but whatever i do , i cant get my processor to go over 3.57ghz . after looking this up on forums , i find the behavior looks a little bit like Management Engine Firmware corruption . the only tools that have been programmed to solve this kind of problem are this russian guy that made tools but it is only for Asus Motherboards . so i register a few forums that have this kind of information , and ask , but except telling me to update my ME firmware , and testing different ram , and putting the bios to default value i cant get more info . so i did that . i tried different ram , reloaded default bios values, updated Management Engine Firmware , but still have the same problem . my cpu doesnt go over 3.57ghz . i am about to order a bios from ebay , but dont know if this will work . also i am not completely 100% sure that i have ME-FW corruption , because people who has this cant change values speeds in the bios , the numbers revert automatically (at least on asus), for me i can change them , but it just doesnt actually change anything . if i order from ebay a new bios : The Management Engine does actually exist in the Bios ? it is not on a side chip ? from what i understood it is really in the bios chip itself , but i want to be sure . my actual bios is 2.90P the other forum http://www.win-raid.com/t3095f16-asrock-z-extreme-Managment-Engine-probably-corrupted-need-guidance.html#msg42117 and this one is in french http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=topic&catid=7&id=2593&Itemid=255&lang=fr and this is one of the many post from the russian guy https://hardforum.com/threads/tools-to-flash-and-recover-bios-on-asus-p8xxx-boards-fd44editor-ftk.1726429/ my 2 setups Asrock z77 extreme 4 555 , i5 3570k, HyperX 4x8 ddr3 2400 (HX324C11SRK4/32) , gtx 970 asusStrix , corsair 650w psu , evo850 ssd for my system , win10 Gigabyte Ga-z77P-d3 , i5 3570, 8go ddr3 1600, gtx 660, raid0 (intelX25-v 40Go)x2 , windows 10 i also borrowed 2x4go ddr3 1600 kingston to make some tests just in case . i ve been told in the forum that in fact my cpu coudnt stand 2400 ram , that it was limited to 1600 speed rams , so maybe i broke something ? (could not load bios preset for 2400 only 2133 speed preset is possible to load , but default behavior if i put auto for the ram it sets the ram speed to 2133 , not 1600) ------------- asrock z77 extreme 4 555 |

Have you ever tried simply updating the UEFI/BIOS itself? What I really mean is running the update with the same version again. You could try another UEFI/BIOS chip, it's cheap. I assume you have Turbo enabled? Not one of those people that believe you can disable Turbo and OC? What are you using to monitor the CPU speed? Any memory speed above 1600 is a memory OC for an Ivy Bridge CPU. so after reading your answer i tried downgrading from 2.90P to 2.90 by simply installing 2.90 and it seemed it was working , but i see the bios staid at 2.90P when i try the only flash tool in the bios it says i have the last version uefi turbo value is set to enable yes , i found pics of people bios to be sure it was configured alright and it seems to be . i will try to disable the turbo to see if i see a difference i was monitoring the cpu with HWMonitor , but after trying it on different computers i feels the readings are not accurate . so i now only look at the task manager s value on the 2nd tab (win10) and intelburntest to load the cpu all my recent test since today are with just 2x4go of 1600 ram thanks about the information on the ram limits i am looking for a usb dive that i can empty and do the manual flash in the bios , not the one in windows . will post info after ------------- asrock z77 extreme 4 555 |

Ok , i manually updated the bios (could actually see the changes cause the bios password is no more asked for), and it worked , if i set speeds in the bios i can see them in the task manager and HWMonitor alike i have tied 3.9ghz and 4.4ghz , and it is running perfectly for now thank you for your suggestion , it was so simple in the end ! ------------- asrock z77 extreme 4 555 |

Great, and thank for letting us know what happened. You may have had corrupted IME firmware, but that is difficult to know with certainty. The IME firmware and software, among other things, serves as a communication link between the UEFI/BIOS and Windows for things related to the CPU. That is what allows us to OC the CPU in Windows with the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility program for example. I don't know if you installed the 2.90P UEFI, or if it was installed when you got the board. If it was corrupted, it was a minor corruption, or as you thought, it was the IME firmware. Regardless, sometimes just installing the same version of a board's firmware fixes problems. I should have told you to use the Instant Flash update method instead of the Windows update method, since the Windows method tends to have the most failures for some reason. Always use Instant Flash, it has always worked fine in my experience.
