Good afternoon

After performing a BIOS update earlier today (to resolve a fan speed issue) the PC failed to boot.

Previous version: 1.30
New version: 4.20

The secondary BIOS simply returned a 10 error (and still does).

After removing all but one stick of memory, the machine booted into the BIOS and I flashed it down to 3.90 which seems to be even worse.

It now boots to the ASROCK BIOS menus (press F2 etc.) but doesn't respond to keyboard input from the same PS2 keyboard used to perform the 4.20 to 3.960 flash downgrade.

Plugging a USB keyboard into any USB port just pouts it into a boot loop.

The DR Debug LED shows a 0d error but the description of that error is little help.

The CPU is an A8 5600 (AD560KWOA44HJ); the memory is Corsair Vengeance CMY8GX2133C11 both of which are on the compatibility list. There is one 4G stick in slot 2 as that's the configuration that worked for the 4.20 to 3.90 downgrade.

There is nothing in the PCI slots so apart from the 1 stick of RAM and CPU the only other things connected are the boot SSD (an Intel one), the 3 HDD on SATA ports and a SATA BD-RW drive.

I've reset the CMOS (multiple times) and even removed the CMOS battery for an hour.

I can't be without the machine so unless someone here has a clue, it will be a new board CPOU and RAM job tomorrow.

Thanks for reading

Russ

" rel="nofollow - have you tried flashing back to an earlier version *BUT* using the dos flashing method ?

e.g. a bootable usb in dos with the dos flashing files

it seems the instant flash may well leave traces of later bios when flashing BACK to earlier versions while a dos flash tends to totally erase bios before flashing new files

and if available id suggest going back to the initial bios you had known to work (even with a fan issue) just to get a new starting point

No idea which FM2A88X board you have, four models currently shown by ASRock, but there may be others that are no longer currently produced, so not listed.

BIOS Selection Switch => FM2A88X Extreme6+

Sorry. It is the Extreme 6+ and yes, I did download the correct flash version.

I haven't tried the DOS flash method (I don't actually think it's loading that far before error) but will try now.

Thanks.

" rel="nofollow - @russellw

(i quote the manual)

"This motherboard has two BIOS chips, a primary BIOS (BIOS_ A) and a backup BIOS (BIOS_B), which enhances the safety and stability of your system.
Normally, the system will work on the primary BIOS. However, if the primary BIOS is corrupted or damaged, just flip the BIOS Selection Switch to "B", then the backup BIOS will take over on the next system boot.
After that, use "Secure Backup UEFI" in the UEFI Setup Utility to duplicate a working copy of the BIOS files to the primary BIOS to ensure normal system operation.
For safety issues, users are not able to update the backup BIOS manually. Users may refer to the BIOS LEDs (BIOS_ A_LED or BIOS_B_LED) to identify which BIOS is currently activated."

So, that doesn't work ?

NO that doesn't work. I get a different error (10) as mention in the original post with that 'B' BIOS and that has been consistent throughout the process.
