" rel="nofollow - Can someone tell me what RAM I can actually buy to get 128gb running in my x399 Taichi and 1950x threadripper?

This is about the only one I can find that is on QVL:  CMK128GX4M8B3000C16

Is there anything else, or am I stuck with this 128gb Corsair Vengeance ddr4-3000 kit?

" rel="nofollow - j1mmyfever, if you can wait a while, I think there will be many choices. http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=6534&KW=1%2E0%2E0%2E7&PID=39029&title=memory-vendor-comment-on-x399-agesa#39029
We are at 1.0.0.4 now.  This vendor will not even sell it at this time.  There are several people here having success with 128 GB running 2133 MHz.  I think if you want to go faster you will have to wait a while.  G.Skill has some really good looking memory coming but when?  They are showing 3 128 GB kits of fast memory, at least one is for sale at Newegg (~$2k).  I do not know if they are qualified, but G.Skill shows the one QVL for X399 Taichi.  You may need to run them at reduced speed (SPD is 2133) for a while.  Please look around the forum for success.  Enjoy, John.

Thanks guys.  It looks like my main issue was I've only been looking for 3000 and 3200 products.  It looks like dropping to 2933 seems to open the options up a lot.  I've also only really been looking at the ASRock Taichi Memory QVL at  http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X399%20Taichi/index.us.asp#Support. " rel="nofollow - http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X399%20Taichi/index.us.asp#Support.  ; It's hard to trust a newegg listing that just says "X399" in it.

I can wait a while for now.  This system is supposed to be my development lab running Azure Stack private cloud, hence the need for the 128gb of ram.  For now though, its chugging away mining Crypto currency and it's 2x8 ddr4 3200 is doing just fine. (such a waste of a system for mining crypto, but it offsets some of the parts costs).

Appreciate all the info.

jimmy can i just mention

trusting corsiar ram over gskill ram ,is far more a reach for hope than neweggs adverts for ram kits designed by the most succesful ryzen ram maker

this has been proven since ryzen launch day for nearly 6 months now
the flarex range includes the important samsung b dies and programmed xmp info which is the closest for am4 bios to work with
of course everything is never a 100% sure fire bet ,but the wise money is going to gskill not corsair ram

" rel="nofollow - Thanks for the tip datonyb.

I haven't build a system in years and am out of my element when it comes to hardware.  I've always just bought corsair in the past, but I'll take your advice and go GSkill.  I read the samsung b die is better, didn't realize the Flare X will all have it.  That's enough for me.

So to summarize what I've seen so far.

-GSkill Flare X is the best bet for various reasons
-The Flare X from the article MisterJ wrote, is this model from 4th link Juanny posted? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232642&cm_re=gskill-_-20-232-642-_-Product

Does that sound right?  $2100 :(

yes flare x ram is very expensive but worth the cost due to its tight timings and reliability. The kit I got was the 64gb cas 14 for a little over 1k https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232644 and it booted right up the first time at safe jedec timing of 2133 then when I applied the pre programmed XMP it runs at 2933. When I can get more dough Ill be getting another 64gb kit to max out at 128gb. Havent tried to oc the ram yet just to verify that the build is running stable but im fairly sure that it will oc to 3066 based on many posts ive seen

EDIT: btw the 64gb kit that  I have is samsung b-die based on thaiphoon software=ryzen and threadripper LOVES B-die

j1mmyfever, please do not take datony's statement too literally.  I am a strong believer in G.Skill (only) and have FlareX in my current machine waiting for a latter BIOS/AGESA.  It has Hynix chips not Samsung.  The memory I pointed to (announcement and selling) are Threadripper exclusive and I think they are all Samsung B-die.  There is a free program you can use to see all the information in the SPD memory - Taiphoon, here: http://www.softnology.biz/files.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.softnology.biz/files.html
You can even burn new values if you buy a paid version.
datonyb is my go to guy for memory and can probably tell you which memory has Samsung B-dies, but G.Skill is very responsive and have always answered my questions about what chips are in what product.  I suspect all TR exclusive sticks are B-dies, but could be wrong.  Enjoy, John.

yes you're right-in gskills x399 product pages they do specify that they are using samsung b-die in all their threadripper branded memory kits which makes perfect sense based on Ryzens preference in that chip

Thanks guys, and noted on your advice MisterJ.  Your article on the gskill stuff does state it all 100% samsung b-die.  I've learned enough from crypto mining that samsung b-die beats everything typically.  That's enough for me to pursue it.

It looks like Flare X is the leader right now.  Makes me sad looking at the price though lol.  I doubt any of this stuff is going to get marked down for Black Friday either.  I'm going to wait over the weekend for any possible price change then pull the trigger I think.

Thanks again everyone.

Another sad thing was that I read that we can expect DDR4 prices to keep rising for the next year haha soon only millionaires will be able to afford it

I found multiple old newegg listings from 3rd parties selling Dell T7910 workstations with 256gb of DDR4 ram in them WAY under priced.  I ordered them and they canceled my orders because they weren't priced right with the current DDR4 prices.  I was sooo sad.  Thought I found the deal of the century.

yes sorry to confirm

you need to grab the 2933 'cl14' kit to make sure its the b dies

they should have other kits with b dies ,but searching the part number would have to be done to confirm (2993 cl14 would just not be possible using other chips)

at the other end of extremes the 2133/2400 flarex stuff could indeed have hynix or samsung d/e/s dies

It's CAS 14, which makes it sounds like Samsung b-die right?

Awesome price right now.

that is in fact a kit of four 8gb cl 14 samsung b dies yes,
two points to note

dont trust the rgb software, it was corrupting the firmward of rams early ryzen stage (i really would advise non rgb myself)

and second, we already did have a guy use 2 x 64gb kits and it worked fine, but in theory
technically you should only use a matched kit (in practise it seems not so life threatening)

you may well find though ,its a case of install 2 stick in dual channel
update bios,install windows
and then adjust manually ram timings fine tuned to your board before dropping in the other 6 sticks with fingers and toes crossed Wink

It's actually a kit of 4x16gb.

I know I've read everywhere mixing kits is potentially bad, but i keep reading posts of people having no issues and I'm wondering if the price is worth the gamble.  $1400 for 128gb is pretty nice to give it a shot.

I did some more reading since posting this and didn't realize the XMP profiles are different between the amount of dimms in a kit.  I don't think I want to get into manually configuring them, so I may just keep looking for a good price on a 128gb kit.
