AB350M Pro 4 Freeze on reboot. Shutdown Start cycle works.

AB350M Pro 4 new system with Ryzen 5 1600X
Evga 1060 6gb
16 GB 2666 Muskin AMD ram
Samsun 960 250GB NVMe
Latest Bios 3.30
Same issue from Debian Linux and Windows 10.

Board will go to reboot but once shut down just it is stuck in the pre boot zone at least that is where I think it hangs, "fans running "high than cycles down" power on", it takes a jab of the reset button to actually progress from this point holding power button down does nothing.

No overclocking done.

" rel="nofollow - Anything odd in dmesg or system logs in Debian? With the Linux I believe we have great chance to catch the error message(s).

Looks like a PSU, RAM or UEFI to me.

P.S. in which slot did you put the SSD?

Debian Linux is crashing also, I get this in logs not at crash but sometime before and it's consistent.

Last thing in log before crash, not at the time of crash though but some time before.

Dec 26 10:55:29 debian kernel: [ 1898.911887] INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST device=00:00.0 address=0xfffffffdf8000000 flags=0x0a00]

Seems to me that this architecture is still Beta.  Reset it is not always I have now found and I need to cycle power supply off drain board and than start.

The same nasty USB cr@p the rest of the guys here are getting!

PERSONAL OPINION: judging by the sheer amounts of similar complaints for this board, I think it should never existed in first place. This board looks like some garage engineers did a side project for ASRock in their spare time...

Alas, other guys' issues like these are still unresolved. Dead

You could try UEFI re-flash and CMOS resets but ultimately I think this one is beyond our ability to fix.

My opinion again, it may not be what you're looking for but at least it's honest - swap this board for another brand. Do some reading in advance, just to make sure you don't end up with a similar stuff.

Option 2: RMA this board as many times it takes until you get working one.

" rel="nofollow - Whats a good linux board?  I thought this one got good ratings? So much for that.

My first venture from Gigabyte/Asus/Evga motherboards, I was hesitant now I know why.

FYI: memtest seems to e going fine 55% done now test 9.

" rel="nofollow - Do you insist on mATX or B350M? Is budget a problem?

For me, a good Linux board is one with good IOMMU groupings and many slots/connectors.

ASUS Prime B350M-E appears to be a decent 60EUR performer. Oddly enough, the ASRock AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac is very praised and I've never seen it mentioned here, which should be a good sign.

I'm afraid that whatever we do we can't fix the dreaded USB errors you're getting.

Guess I will do a return on this board.

I wanted the small form factor mostly, but i can do a larger system.

Cost is always a consideration but there is no value in a system that does not work.

Return label printed now for packing.

Close call I had almost given my EVGA 780i system away this weekend and the family member did not come over so its still here.

Wish I felt like there was a good option almost seems like all the motherboards have there pitfalls with linux.

Been there, done that! I know it sucks but sometimes that's the only choice.

Ironically, my Linux builds are on Intel machines. Crunching, gaming and productivity - on AMD.

I wish I had better Linux experience with AMD, but I know one thing for sure - the Taichi is currently a mess regarding IOMMU groupings. Lots of patching and manual work is needed to make it work right.

P.S. let us know how it went from here for you. We'd love a happy-ending tale! Beer

Will do.

Thanks for the info.

It helped with my decision.

This looked like the right board but clearly is not.

The more I look now that I know what to look for it looks like all the Ryzen stuff is just a gamble.......

I know exactly how you feel, believe me. I blew nearly 2k EUR on this Ryzen build alone.

I knew there would be issues here and there but it looks like AMD rushed it too quick, and ASRock left their summer trainees do the job on this generation of AM4 boards...

For crying out loud, I was initially aiming for the X399 Taichi but check how many people here having issues with a platform where the CPU alone is $1000! I'm surely glad I didn't go all-guns-blazing when I was buying last-gen AMD stuff, as much as I love team RED.

Seeing the defect rate across the board I went for a deal on an MSI B350 Tomahawk. On sale for $78 and a $20 off rebate on top of that. I was tempted to go with a nicer board but not with the current defect rate that seems to be 20% new and increasing in the following 3 months.  At $60 I can buy another when it comes time to rma the first at least I hope.

While MSI is not my favorite brand it's hard to recommend a cheap and reliable AM4 mobo these days. I wonder what AMD thinks of all these abysmal mobo issues?

One does have to wonder if there is 350/370 chip-set issues also.

From reviews it doesn't look like you would do any better spending $260 on a motherboard.

I would go with EVGA due to past experience but they are not in the game.  I have been running the 1060 6gb ssc in my old system and it's doing great.

I don't need a review to tell me this. LOL Check my OP threads and you'll see why. Angry

Looks like at least the 10th now before I get the MOBO and AMD had sent me an RMA after I let them know about my issues with Linux and crashing under low utilization but with multiple  apps.
4 bash windows 2 running ssh 1 nano 1 python chrome with multiple tabs and streaming you tube.  The youtube always seemed to do it in and freeze the system up when I would go to switch video.

First with the MSI B350 Tomahawk. No sign of issues. Board runs quick and cooler than the Asrock fingers crossed no issues appear. Bios layout is a mess really WTF were they thinking it's horrible at best.  Bios says ram is at slower speed than ram stated but Ryzen master tells me otherwise.  Happy to have my new system running.

Thumbs up on the PC with replacement parts no crashing and ram posts to speed.  Not an overclocker so no word on that.

Well, at least you have a running system now! That is great! Hopefully UEFI and AGESA will be fixed soon.

If you are having segfaults in Linux you may want to open a ticket with AMD and RMA the CPU. It's a known issue. Check the webs for more info.

I tried almost everything, for 3 weeks, before RMA (Return Merchandise Autorization).Without success...
They installed a win 10, drivers without problems and sad that MOBO has no inssues.
I sent a lot of links of the problem in this model and ask for retest because is a intermitent problem.
they test all componets separately and indicated a problem on the MOBO with the newest bios.
Now after 2 months they are going to send me a new MOBO or my money back.
now is the question.....
ITs not a problem that happens with everybody....
Replace with the same MOBO or change models????
Hail from brazil!!

" rel="nofollow - gustdoidao what BIOS/UEFI are "they" running and who are "they"?  What BIOS/UEFI were you running?  On 13 February Beta BIOS 4.63 was released.  Did you run it?  Are "they" running it?  It is really hard to help with so little information.  We don't know what power supply, W10 version, BIOS/UEFI, memory details, OCing and probably more.  Enjoy, John.

" rel="nofollow - ASRock is a joke:
Answer from the official support:

The freezing can happen of many things.

Like problem with software installation or BIOS setting. Overclocking system and hardware defect.

Please check following:

- make fresh Windows installation. Chek again. OK? Then install drivers and check again. And so on...

- check if your power supply can support all the hardware you are using.

- use CLRCMOS jumper on mainboard to re-set BIOS to default. See manual for more details.

- try with other memory modules if you have on hand. (ECC, buffered and high-density modules are not supported).

- test if possible the CPU + memory on another system if they are working well.

- remove the mainboard from chassis and test again. Maybe a short-circuit from chassis to mainboard?

A defect on the hardware itself is still possible. Please contact your dealer for further help.

I'm running into the same problem, however this happens only when the board has warmed up after a few minutes of normal operation. I go to shut down or restart, windows shuts down properly, usb powers off, display turns off, power and fans still running. It will be in this state until I hold down the power button. Reset button does nothing. I usually have to cycle the power supply switch and drain the board power to get it to boot again. Starts up and runs Windows and games normally. I have updated to the latest BIOS (4.7) and have tried the beta one as well (4.83) with no change in behavior. Here are my specs:

ASRock AB350M Pro 4
Ryzen 1600
T-Force Dark 3200 RAM (Not QVL, I know, but works well)
Samsung 960 EVO 256GB m.2
PowerColor Red Dragon RX 580 8GB
Seasonic FOCUS GOLD 750W PSU
