I went to media markt to buy some new hardware:

1. Car Toy

2. Portable USB SSD.

3. Mic

I am now testing the Sandisk Extreme Portable USB SSD external drive... it's blueish gummy case... it does not work with the Front USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port... it does work with the Front USB USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port.

I also benchmarked it after performing NFTS format with 4K unit size. The performance is much worse than an internal drive, it's about 7 to 10 times slower, but should still be somewhat faster than a harddisk, at least for read/write speeds sequentially, and it should still be a lot faster for random read/writes but I do not find it too impressive, at least it stays cools, it was 200 euros, pretty expensive for a poor performing drive, but it's external so I was hoping it cannot hurt my hardware, however I just realized connecting it to usb might cause sparks and might actually be a worse option, but internal ssd scare me of heat so I only use it for rare stuff for now !

Some numbers from atto:

Portable drive:

Read 15 K/sec IO/s   Write 11 K/sec IO/s that is it's best number of that it drops off pretty rapidly.

Internal drive is much faster:

100 K/sec IO/s

I will attach some screenshots to compare.

Currently I am trying to figure out if this is a USB connection limitation or if it's just a slower drive. I believe for now it's a slower drive but I could be wrong, though the AI kinda confirms it could also be a connection issue/limitation/bottleneck.

So I am curious if Gen 2 Type C, to mini port would be faster... so far AI seems to say no, it would be comparable speed but I have my doubts, I thought this gen 2x2 would be faster somehow... but it's not even working.

Packing says it's ready for type C but then it says type A compatible ?!? Connection Scam ?

Anyway here is a link to the product:

It's comparable to this one:

It seems old technology from 2020... maybe I should not have bought it, are there any faster external drives for usb gen 2x2 which actually work and are faster ?

It's supposed to be used for software development where 70.000+ files need to be processed, this drive cannot do it in 1 second, but would take 4 to 5 seconds is my estimation which is a bit of a disappointment but at least it's faster than 2 minutes. Bit messy post, but I am kinda fed up with technical issues... bit tired of it all, bit sleep deprived... I just go with the flow/brain flow for now =D

(My guess for now would be a type-a connection limitation, to tired to dive into sh*tty usb specs again :P* for now =D)

Found product on official website, there is also speak of some kind of firmwire thing going on, not sure what that is about ?

It seems to be their best offering more or less, there is also a pro version, not sure if it's significantly faster but it also seems much more expensive... not sure yet.

What's is further weird about it is the colors of my product are slightly different, it's a bit more light blueish and the hole is more yellowish... that's kinda odd, then their own video shows an even different color scheme, so I guess they come in all kinds of colors ,hoping it's not a fake product lol.

The text on the packaging btw was massively confusing, different languages mixed together, weird company.

*update*

Youtube video playlist of the unpacking, connecting and using of this device:

The remaining question is:

Should this device/portable ssd have worked with the usb 3.2 gen 2.2 c port ? Or is this device only "port" compatible but not "protocol" compatible with gen 2x2...

Also would a gen 2x2 drive type c be backwards compatible with usb 3.0/3.1/3.2/type a etc ?
