Ok, to start this long forum off... I recently just helped my friend build a pc on Christmas. He was on the fence about switching from pc to console. I told him not to worry about it, building a pc isn't hard. He was worried about all the things that could go wrong. I tried to assure him nothing would and it would be a breeze with my help. Oh boy was I wrong..

So the build went smooth, no problems. Turned on the pc, updated bios, then put windows 10 bootable drive in (home 64 bit). Windows installed perfectly, up until we got to the "Lets connect you to a network". This happened:
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327200733738827778/402009224512798721/image.jpg?width=508&height=676
Windows refused to connect to the internet, I told him not to worry I told him skip that, go to windows home screen. So he got to the home screen, I told him to update all his drivers. Which he go from here:
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350M%20Pro4/index.asp#Download

He downloaded all the drivers. The drivers said they were properly working. Everything was there and up to date. Then, he proceeded to disconnect the LAN cable from the back of the PC, restart modem/router and pc. Turned it back on and at the bottom right the internet icon was yellow. Previously it was red, I guess it was because of drivers. He then clicked trouble shoot internet, got this as a result:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/327200733738827778/395570623717441538/image.jpg

So after this we did the ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew
Then he got this: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327200733738827778/395659986983714817/image.jpg?width=902&height=676
After this then he manually tried to put in the submask, default gate away, and IP address. So after that he got this: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327200733738827778/396491563460460544/image.jpg?width=508&height=676
All this took us over 30 plus hours since dec 25. We tried contacting windows, they put the blame on comcast. Comcast told him to buy a new router, did so and still didn't work. Then comcast puts the blame back on windows. So i contact windows again and they tell me to tell my friend to do a fresh start of windows, he does that still doesn't work. So, I contact windows again and they tell me its the motherboards manufactures fault. So after all the frustration since Christmas trying to help my friend put his pc together im here. Asking for help.

Also, somethings to include for context. We know its not the Ethernet cord because it works for his ps4 and mac. We know the LAN port isnt broken because the LED is on. Please help any help will be greatly appreciated. Also his specs are here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WGmY4C

Boy, oh, boy! What is with all that fancy text colors and formatting? Cry

It's a good start if you tell us what UEFI you were initially. Which version did you flash later?

Please bake a live Ubuntu USB and try booting with it. Eth NIC doesn't appear to be broken. I think something's fishy with your network setup.

" rel="nofollow - PleaseHelp, first - please get rid of the damn colors - very hard to make sense out of it.
Second - DO NOT bake a Linux system! - Will just confuse the issue!!!
Now, please post a complete set of specifications of your system as in my signature.
What Ethernet card are you talking about?  Are you not using the on-board NIC?  I have found the Windows debug in the LAN area is not often useful.  Please get your NIC drivers from the manufacturer and the Chip Set drivers here:  http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Please do this:  Windows Key i-Network & Internet-Ethernet-Change Adapter Options and post a screenshot of this page.  If you will follow the instructions at the top of the forum we won't need to open a link to see the images.  Enjoy, John.

Lolwut?! Confused Shocked

5min of work, 0 installations. If it work out, then it's simple! How's that confusing?

All I'm asking him is to check if Ubuntu picks the network. I'm not asking OP to write Meltdown ucode patches for crying out loud.

zlobster, 99.99%, low estimate, of the posters here use Windows and have NO experience with Linux - ME for example.  they will not know where to find the ingredients, much less how to bake them or interpret the results of booting. If they post results, only you will be able to help.  I am sure they would be glad to  have you drop by and give personal support.  Enjoy, John.

For the sake of objectiveness - I've never told anyone to listen ONLY to my advice. I may tell someone not to listen other fellow's advice ONLY if I'm sure it presents in/direct danger.

Granted, it's common sense anyone would decide for themselves if they are to follow a given advice or not. I'm neither forcing anyone nor tricking them to follow my advice.

Constructive criticism is always welcome. Let's stick to that, otherwise we're not helping anyone, even ourselves.

From your third screen shot:

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327200733738827778/395659986983714817/image.jpg%3cwidth=902&height=676" rel="nofollow - https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327200733738827778/395659986983714817/image.jpg?width=902&height=676

your network adapter is not getting an IP address from I assume your router; Windows is using what is often referred as an APIPA address (automatic private IP address).  Please do as MisterJ above requested as we do not know which of numerous system boards you are using.  Are you attempting to network with wired Ethernet?  Possibly built in Wifi?  Thanks!

Yes, its getting the internet through the router. We even just tried the modem and still didn't work. Yes, it is wired. The motherboard doesn't support wifi. We are just trying Ethernet.

" rel="nofollow - To be completely honest, I do not know why or how those colors came to be. This is my first time using this website. I couldn't find where to change it, so, I just said it.
I dont know if this will help but here is another screen shot.

" rel="nofollow - PleaseHelp, please see here for how to post images:  http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=28&title=how-to-post-picture-on-asrock-forum
Please open your first post, click the Post Options, select Edit, highlight a colored section of it and use the Underscore A at the top of the Edit Post dialog and change the color to white.
Did you not understand my instructions to open Network Connections dialog?  Please ask questions.  Have you tried multiple Ethernet cables?  Have you tried plugging another computer into the modem, then the router?  Did you get a connection at all from any combination?  UEFI is the newer version of BIOS.  Google does great on this kind of question, please give it a go.  I would suggest that you not try to update the UEFI/BIOS until the LAN problem is fixed.  How are you uploading you images?  Enjoy, John.
