" rel="nofollow - Just took the plunge on the X370. It basically works ok, but I'm having huge problems mixing NVME as boot and a regular AMD RAID array.

I've seen many similar posts as well, but not as specifically described.

Basically, the board doesn't seem to like mixing an NVME drive and regular RAID on SATA ports. It won't boot. It won't run

I can't even correctly install the RAID drivers if NVME is being used as the system drive.

The BIOS has no configurability for which drives will be used as RAID or regular/AHCI/SATA etc like lots of other boards.

Has anyone solved this?

Has anyone actually mixed RAID SATA drives and NVME boot drives?

nanohead, as far as I know ASRock has not released a BIOS/UEFI to support RAID on X370. I have an NVMe RAID0 working as a boot device on my X399. You need to post all your specifications, so please tell us where you are getting your drivers and RAID instructions. Enjoy, John.

Actually, the BIOS already supports RAID perfectly fine, which has been part of the greater AGESA package for quite some time. Been using it for years. Its the same firmware based CPU assisted RAID thats always been there (actually licensed from Promise if my middle aged memory serves!). I was able to get it work perfectly fine until I installed the NVME drive, that's when it got wierd.

I tried drivers from both Asrock and AMD direct, they were both the same ultimately. The AMD installer (which is also packaged and distributed from the Asrock website) both say the RAID drivers can't be installed if there's an NVME boot drive.

This is likely fixable by Asrock, as opposed to a chipset limitation. Especially the Ultra M.2 slot as its directly connected to the CPU's PCIE lanes, as opposed to the other slot that's served by the X370.

The embedded RAID manager actually can see one of the M.2 slots, which is more peculiar.

I'm 90% sure it can be fixed by Asrock. Although there's a 10% chance its a Microsoft/AMD problem.

nanohead, I guess you are talking about what I call Software RAID. I am sure ASRock can fix this. It is my understanding that AMD has released the code necessary to support NVMe RAID in X370 as X399 has had for a while. I directed one user to open an ASRock ticket to see when ASRock will make it available to users. I suspect when it is released then you will be able to construct an AMD based RAID to suit your purpose with an NVMe boot device. I suggest you also bug ASRock with a ticket to get them moving and perhaps they can help with your current problem. Best of luck and enjoy, John.
