Subject: Can't POST, 5 beeps
Date Posted: 15 Feb 2018 at 9:22am
I'm most of the time getting 5 short beeps from the mobo. I get no POST.

Its a new build:
Fatality AB350 gaming ITX/ac  mobo

AeroCool Integrator 400W PSU

Ryzen 1500x
Corsiar Vengeance LPX ram 2 x 4 Mb  3000MHz
no graphics card
HDMI connection to HDMI of tv.

I have tried after clearing CMOS.
Tried a single ram stick in each slot, with both sticks.
Checked 8pin cpu connector and the 4 pins are. giving 12.4V
The fan is spinning. Tried 2 tvs. Tried both HDMI sockets.
Tried with and with a hard drive attached.
I've re-seated the CPU.

I was getting 5 short beeps every time. However after reading another post on here, I took one ram stick out, cleared CMOS and powered up again. This time I get no beeps but still no POST.

Any advice will be appreciated. I don't have other ddr4 ram, cpu or mobo to swap round to try.

copenworld, Ryzen has no built in GPU, so no picture.   "Without VGA card5 => long beeps".
Enjoy, John.

You might want to look at the new 2200G/2400G Ryzen ($100/$170).
They have a pretty good GPU built in.

" rel="nofollow - Hi thanks for the reply John. Doesn't the motherboard deal with graphics? seeing as it has 2 HDMI ports?

If not, you are saying I need to get a graphics card?  Is that because the HDMI ports are for an APU fitted? A Ryzen CPU then needs a standalone graphics card?

A "Ryzen' CPU needs a standalone graphics card

yes im afraid you didnt check the build list quite well enough

dont feel bad your certainly not the first
your options are
buy a graphics card (a bad idea at the moment due to prices)
or option b
the ryzen 2400g cpu 4 cores 8 threads max boost speed 3900mhz at present for sale for £149 from novatech in the u.k. (the on chip graphics is very similar to a gtx1030) for free !

or £89 for the 2200g 4 cores 'no hyper-threads' and slightly less able graphics

both suitable for light gaming or perfect for media centre, home office etc

Thanks Datonyb.  I hadn't thought the Ryzen had graphics but thought it was on the mobo. It hadn't made that clear to me during my parts searches. At least I should be able to get it working now.

no probs mate

it has indeed been a while since the boards had graphics on them

if your not building pc's regular its an easy mistake

hopefully the above options should be ok depending on your usage and needs

My last build/present pc is on an AM3 socket. Not a gaming machine.

Any tips on the graphics card? I have an R5 series for PCI-E 2.1.  I've just put this in and nothing. I read PCI-E 3 was backward compatible.  But is it?

" rel="nofollow - PCIe slots are backwards compatible, you can even change this in BIOS too.  Have you by chance plugged your monitor into the card?  Or are you still trying to run it through the HDMI/display port on the board?

Was about to ask the same thing myself about the monitor cable. Thumbs Up

@OP, you mentioned you tried using a single stick of RAM but got no beeps and no POST, try putting all your RAM back in with the GPU installed and the monitor cable plugged into the GPU.

yes definitely plugged cable into the card. The card works as I then put it back in my AM3 PC and worked no problem. I even tried the DVI cable used by my AM3 PC and on a different screen and still got no signal.

ITX board so only the one PCIe x16 slot to try....

Make sure the card is fully seated, especially if the board uses a steel reinforced PCIe slot, these are great but do make for a slightly more snug fit.

The 5 beeps is a good sign, it means the system is working but not detecting a GPU (as per your OP).

If the GPU has an additional power connector make sure you have the correct power (PCIe) cable hooked up to it.

" rel="nofollow - to add to this
also confirm your system ram is really fully seated (these newer slots require much more force than anyone would like to use )
check both ram and gpu are fully inserted and the contact pins are all level/inserted same amount

(ask me how i know ?..ive got one card here thats manufactured with slightly less amount of room than most cases need from the base of motherboard to the bent tab of metal bracket where you screw it in....resulting in the card not fully seating in motherboard if you use the securing screws)

also try when your sure and happy everythings plugged in ,to reset the cmos ,remove the button battery, remover power lead from wall, press and hold the case power button and wait 10 mins
and then refit battery and power lead and try to boot with 1 ram stick in a2......this first boot after cmos clear can take upto 5 mins

Its working now! Not sure of the exact thing I did but could have been having all the RAM in or CMOS clearing.

Anyway, how do I change boot priority to use USB stick?  I only have the option of the harddrive and UEFI.

copenworld,  while booting, tap F11 to get the Boot Device Menu, then select the device you wish to boot.  Enjoy, John.

I tried that but had same options only.

copenworld, please post a screenshot of the F11 menu.  The UEFI is probably your USB stick.  Hit F12 to get a screenshot onto a FAT formatted USB stick plugged.  Enjoy, John.
