So i'm a little out of the loop here, but if I buy a http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1%3ctoolid=10029&campid=CAMPAIGNID&customid=CUSTOMID&catId=58058&type=2&ext=401492193581&item=401492193581" rel="nofollow - z370 Taichi and a i7 8700 (non-K) or perhaps a xeon in the future, will I be able to overclock them freely with good 'ole bclk?

Yes and no, yes the board supports changing the Bclk but Intel could release micro-code that if the BIOS see's it in the CPU it could disallow some Bclk changes for specific CPU's. It has happened in the past with other series Intel CPU and could or has already happened with some 8000 series. Bclk runs the cpu, chipset, memory and PCIe clocks so you need many things to be very stable when overclocking with just Bclk versus K models and just changing CPU ratio. Just a thought: if you are willing to spend $50 more for a Z370 Taichi board (versus Z370 Killer or Extreme) why not also spend $50 more for the K model ? http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1%3ctoolid=10029&campid=CAMPAIGNID&customid=CUSTOMID&catId=58058&type=2&ext=401492193581&item=401492193581" rel="nofollow -

It wasn't that much about the money really, more for the fun of overclocking with bclk like the old days on 1366/1156 and before.
The pcie frequency used to be locked to 100mhz back then, with its own option to change it as desired, I whould assume something like that is on the new boards too, or else it whould be pretty much useless to even have the bclk option on a board.
My main concern was the microcode bullsh*t intel pulled in the past as you mentioned, so I whould like input from some of the good asrock folks on here :)
It just whould be so cool to get a xeon down the line and oc it to high heavens :D

Ceons wont run on this board anyway, because Intel wants consumer boards paired with consumer boards, and server boards paired with server cpu's
