Hello, I recently build a new system with an Asrock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. I still have about a week until I can return it "no questions asked", and I'm hoping I can resolve the problems until then.
After mounting everything and powering on the PC all lights/fans would start up but nothing on the display, then it would shutdown on it's own. Immediately after it starts up again. Then it shuts down again. Finally on the 3rd attempt it boots up letting me know that the UEFI defaults have been loaded. Then Windows boots up, and everything is stable. I've had it running over the weekend playing games and watching movies all day long. Ran IntelBurn Test, Prime 95, Cinebench => low temps, stable, no issues.
After a shutdown, when powering back on, the same thing happened again. Start up on the 3rd attempt with UEFI defaults loaded (which I had not changed). The workaround I found was to turn the PSU OFF until the red LED on the mobo would turn off. After, switch the PSU back ON, power the PC and it starts on the first attempt, no issues.
Because it's a bit of a hassle to get behind the PC each time I start it, I want to resolve the issue. -First thing I did was reinstall Windows 10 because I had problems due to drivers from the previous board. -Then I removed 1 DDR4 and switched the remaining one around, in the end leaving it on slot A2 (tried with both dimms). -I removed everything non essential, video card, all HDDs apart from the OS one. I disconnected all fans apart from CPU, disconnected everything from the front IO except power and reset pins. For the most part I tried to limit the extra factors that might be causing a problem.
So the configuration right now is:
Board: ASRock Z370 Extreme 4 CPU: i5 8600K (didn't overclock it yet) Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 DDR4: 8 Gb G.Skill Ripjaws V F4-3200C16D-16GVKB 16-18-18-38 (which I've left at 2133MHz to avoid XMP issues I saw mentioned in other topics on the forum, even if they work fine at 3200MHz when the PC actually starts up) SSD: Kingston 120Gb (with only a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on it) PSU: Corsair CMPSU-600CXV2 600W, ATX 2.3 Case: Corsair 760T
Last thing that I did last night was upgrade the BIOS from 1.3, which it came preinstalled with, to 1.6, since I saw it released recently. I also cleared the CMOS by following the steps from the sticky here on the forum (I left it over night since it was getting late). Aaaaand it made it worse. Now when I power on the PC the fans/lights turn on but nothing else happens. I left it running for 10-15 minutes like this and nothing. The PSU OFF until red LED switches off and PSU back ON still works.
Only two things I can think off to try. - One would be to switch to another PSU, which I don't have, but I have been using this one for 6 years now on my old PC with no issues. Still, I could order another PSU and just return it if that's not the problem. It would get here in 1-2 days and I could try it then. - Second idea, which I could try until the PSU gets here, would be to downgrade the BIOS to an older version. I saw 1.22 mentioned in a few posts as being OK. Even if this works, it would not inspire confidence in the ability of ASRock to support their boards with new BIOS releases.
I would love any other suggestions!
