Windows 7 Ultimate, ASRock Z270 ITX/ac Fatality Motherboard, i5 7400 (Skylake) CPU. Running the most recent BIOS (v2.50), all the latest drivers from the ASRock web site are installed (including Intel Management Engine, and the Thunderbolt drivers). Thunderbolt is enabled in the BIOS and I've tried with and without security enabled (in the bios). I'm trying to connect a drive to the machine that has a Thunderbolt 2 connector, and am using a brand new Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. I was told this will work fine under Windows. I've tried two different Thunderbolt 2 drives (and I've confirmed these work just fine on a mac). The drive never mounts. In Device Manager I tried scanning for new devices, and I get nothing. These are Mac formatted, but I have MacDrive 10 installed, so that shouldn't be an issue.

However, the drive still isn't mounting and I'm getting the following error: When I power on the drive, with the Computer Management (Device Manager) window open, I see under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" that when the drive is powered on, four new items appear: "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" -- all have warning icons next to them, and when clicking on one it says:
At a bit of a loss here. I don't think this is about PCIe lanes - the CPU I have should be able to support 16, and there's only one PCIe card installed, an x8. That should leave plenty for an attached hard drive, no? |

" rel="nofollow - Ok. Maybe this is about PCIe lanes? I just plugged a third (smaller) drive in and it worked fine. The ones that aren't working are OWC Thunderbay 4 RAIDs. MacDrive should mount these as far as I know (that is, it shouldn't be a software issue), but as the drives don't have any interface other than Thunderbolt I can't test that theory (under, say, USB3)

| ...and the issue is the OWC drives. That model is a JBOD that uses software RAID apparently. They have no Windows drivers, so we now have to mount this on a mac and copy 14 TB of data over a 1GB network. Fun times! |
