When my PCIe x16 link speed for my GPU in the BIOs is set to either Auto or Gen 4, my Zotac 4080 Super doesn't work/boot up.

It freezes and crashes at the AsRock logo screen or sometimes the dash at the top left corner.

Switching to Gen 3 makes it work every time. Still unsure what the problem is, as it should work fine with 4.0. Does anyone have an insight here of what to do? Does anyone have the same problem?

Hello!

This is a well known issue.

Questions:
1. Are you on the latest BIOS version of your motherboard?
2. Are you on the latest BIOS of your video card?

If you're not on the latest firmware, then I suggest you updating the BIOS!

I hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply.

1) I had my Mobo's BIOS updated to the latest version (3.10) and it was doing the same thing. I just downgraded back to 2.10 since I read online that it may have solved the issue for some people. It didn't solve it for me though. I could always go back and update to the latest BIO's.

2. No, this is the 2nd RMA for the 4080 Super I received. I have read that updating BIOs on GPU's can be risky and potentially voids the warranty. Not sure how to do it to be honest, never had to do it with any GPU in the past.

Is there any other BIOs setting within my Mobo that may also be causing this issue?

I've had this issue for about 2 months now without my PC working properly because it's set to Auto by default...which should work. It was working perfectly fine before with my original 4080 (not Super) with the 1.21 BIO's at the time around October.

Hi!

To view your actual installed VBIOS version, install the free program TechPowerUp GPU-Z.
With this program you also have the option to save your installed VBIOS on a flash drive, before updating the firmware to a newer one.

To update the VBIOS, you should check for it, first, on the official website of Zotac, or get it from TechPowerUp.

This seems to be the latest VBIOS version for your video card: 95.03.1E.00.BF.

Link to TechPowerUp:

You must put the VBIOS file on a USB flash drive, and run it.

NOTE:
When updating the firmware, you can't have any interruptions!
(Don't do it, if there's a storm outside!)
