Folks, I am sorry to bring this up again. I am having
trouble with an Asrock Fatal1ty x399 not powering on. I know this has been discussed
on this forum before; I have been unable to find many posts with an actual
solution.
Specs:
AMD threadripper 1950x
Asrock Fatal1ty x399 BIOS ver. 1.05
Corsair rm1000 PSU
Gskill ripjaw v 3200 64gb
Enermax liquatech 360
Asus armor OC 1080
Samsung 960 pro m.2 ssd
I am having similar issues to other members, where when the
power supply is turned on the LED lighting under the heat spreader behind the
pcie slots illuminates; when the power button is pressed nothing happens. The
Dr. Debug does not display any error codes, nor do the case fans or psu power
up. I have removed the motherboard from the case and having it sitting on the
box it shipped with. I am using only one stick of the ram; I have tested it
with and without the graphics card. I have insured the 8 pin and 4 CPU power connectors
are connected properly on the PSU side as well as the motherboard side, I have
used a volt meter to check the pins on the 24 pin as well as both CPU power
cables, they both check out fine. I have attempted to use another power supply
with the same results. I have shorted the 24 pin power while it is plugged into
the motherboard to start the power supply, when this is done all of the peripherals
that are plugged into the motherboard start as normal; however the board never
POSTs, nor does the Dr. debug display any error codes.
I should also note that this is the second motherboard that has
done this. I originally bought the same motherboard and it exhibited the same
symptoms, I contacted Asrock support for assistants. After some time trouble
shooting with them, they determined it was a motherboard issue and replaced
that motherboard with this one. Since the new one is also exhibiting the same
symptoms I do not believe that this is an issue with the motherboard.
Any help would be much appreciated.

| As long as all the power connectors are attached in the correct orientation (one of the 12v 4 pins are rotated 90 degrees compared to the others) and there's nothing wrong with the PSU then you should be getting something on the post LEDs. You say you've tried another PSU and motherboard so unless it is an unlikely coincidence that you had 2 faulty motherboards in a row, then it MUST be the power connectors incorrectly installed. Check where the clips are on each connector and make sure they match the cables because, as I said, one of the 4 pins is different to the rest (and most other motherboards too). |

Thank you for the quick reply. I have triple checked that the CPU power cables are in the correct positions. The clip on the 4 pin is facing in toward the ram, and the 8 pin clip is facing to the top of the motherboard. |

I would tend to agree that it could be another component, but if it was something else, I would expect that I would at least the the case or cpu fans to spin up, and some kind of error code. the board is currently outside of the case on a piece of card board. |

The POST LED's can and will ONLY work if the mem and or cpu is working. Think. It takes both for a board to display on the leds. Time to pull the cpu and inspect pins. That checks out then it's on to testing the mem . |
