I have an old z68 extreme4 (2500K sandybridge) system. This morning when I fixed some sata cables I was seeing boot codes in lower right of the screen. These are not dr. debug codes but bios codes - what I saw was A2 and when I unplugged the keyboard B6. The problem I was having is that I could not enter the bios or boot. At first I thought maybe A2 was missing keyboard but I'm not so sure and I can't find these codes in the manual or with google.

The dr.debug led was off.

BIOS boot screen codes today are often difficult to track down. Asrock uses AMI BIOS which some boot codes can be found here, but they are a bit old: http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/amibios.htm
I am thinking you may have bumped something while you "fixed some sata cables", could be ram or some other connection. Have you tried pulling the ram and reseating it ? Note: That board was built around 2011/2012 and would be very susceptible to damage unless you took specific cautions when working on it. Make sure you pull the power cord before checking anything (same goes for new boards too!) http://i.viglink.com/%3ckey=d7d7aa5ced1ebc0821effbccab897fa0&insertId=12f8ddf1ff4202c6cfb07a3cfa240b1a&type=H&mid=undefined&exp=60%3ACI1C55A%3A3&libId=jib1wnre010009ks000DA6zxr39x0&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.asrock.com%2Fforum_posts.asp%3FTID%3D8893%26title%3Dboot-codes-for-extreme4-z68-not-dr-debug&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdp%2FB009B8SYWI&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.asrock.com%2Fforum_topics.asp%3FFID%3D11%26title%3Dintel-motherboards&title=Boot%20codes%20for%20Extreme4%20z68%20%28not%20dr.%20debug%29%20-%20ASRock%20Forums&txt=%3Cspan%3Esata%20%3C%2Fspan%3E%3Cspan%3Ecables%3C%2Fspan%3E" rel="nofollow -

Ok. Thanks. Yea it is getting a bit old. A2 seems to be initializing the disk sub system but i couldn't find B6. Hum. If ice-lake comes out by Nov maybe I'll 'upgrade'. System doesn't seem that old but certainly isn't new.

It is not resolve in the sense that i never learned what the codes meant.

It is resolved in the sense that the system now boots fine and i have not had an issue with it since a week or two after this post (i forget how i resolved the issue as it has been a bit of time - and yes i"m still running the system 24/7 so it has proven quite durable. One of these days I will upgrade to something new but so far i've not had an immediate need.

I revealed this ASRock document related BIOS codes.

B6 should be "passcode testing" code.

Yea but why would it hang on B6 and what does 'passcode testing' mean? I suspect it was actually hanging on the disk for some reason but i have no clue that was a few years ago and it seems to work now. I'll probably replace this motherboard in the next 18 months just haven't decided if i will go with amd or intel next round.
