Hi

I am building a freenas using main components I got from newegg.com

- ASRock E3C226D2I Mini ITX

- Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Server Memory Model CT2KIT102472BD160B

- Intel Core i3-4160 Haswell

On initial boot up, I am not getting any video using onboard vga.  All fans are running, I see solid bright green led on motherboard at first then  blink constantly.

I read that it takes a while to boot up the first time so I let it sit there for 20min and still nothing.

I've tried a different lcd monitor, vga cable and it the same. I know the lcd and cable are good when I hook it up to another working PC.   The bios version is still original, haven't done anything to the board since I can't see the video.  No issue with powering up or down,  just no video.  I even took out the onboard battery for a few minutes to reset the bios.

Bad motherboard ? Bad BIOS ?  Any suggestion ?

  • Recheck assembly;
  • Recheck cable connections;
  • Remove one memory dimm; If still no success, remove the other and put back the first one;
  • Try to update BIOS by IPMI   http://asrockrack.com/support/ipmi.asp#BMC" rel="nofollow - http://asrockrack.com/support/ipmi.asp#BMC

I think it wont matter. If you check i3 4150 and i3 4160 there are only a few differences.
He must update bios to 2.0 (last column of CPU Support list).

" rel="nofollow - Hi, guys!
I have some problem. I use G1840, it's supported since P2.00. On my MOBO stick a label P1.60, so I think there set up BIOS v. P1.60. Need I other CPU to update BIOS? I can't get IMPI via IP 192.168.3.1.

Contact Tech Support with your issue:

http://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp" rel="nofollow - http://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp

Typically you have 2 choices

Use a supported CPU to flash the BIOS
New BIOS chip with correct version for your CPU

If you can get the store to do it for you (cheaply) then that is an option or borrow a supported CPU. Tech support may be able to help you with a new BIOS chip though.
