I have an AsRock Celeron N3050B-ITX board (with Apevia 300W psu / single 4 GB ddr3 sodimm / 500 gb hdd) running Xubuntu 16.04 -- basic "spare-parts" rig.
I added a Fenvi FV101 PCIe to Mini-PCIe adapter board, to use laptop type WiFi /BT card, specifically a Broadcom 43228 radio chip (what I had on hand). While this has worked for over a year, Broadcom drivers for Ubuntu are kind of a pain -- requires some fiddling after every kernel update, often slow to connect, etc.
I purchased an Atheros AR9462 mini-card to upgrade -- a card I've had good luck with in various laptops running Ubuntu (ath9k driver, very stable) -- but the N3050B-ITX board will not output video on either HDMI or VGA with this Atheros card in the Fenvi adapter board. It appears to boot, at least the power LED comes on & psu fan spins up, but no display. Returning to the Broadcom card, the system boots fine.
I did try the Atheros WiFi card in a laptop running ubuntu 15.10, and the card itself is fine, worked good there. I also tried a couple obvious things, clearing CMOS with jumper pins, also pulling CMOS/RTC battery -- didn't help
I'm guessing the problem is BIOS or CMOS or something sees the Fenvi Adapter board as the same hardware & can't deal with a different WiFi card plugged onto the board. AFAIK, the N3050B-ITX has no fault code LED, and with no display I'm unable even to get to BIOS/UEFI set-up to check things.
I do have Secure Boot OFF, so not an unsigned driver issue (I don't think) -- not OS related at all, as I'm not even seeing initial AsRock splash screen --- no display whatever.
Any suggestions at all would be appreciated . . . . . .
