Hello!
I bought a new PM981 1TB M.2 SSD for my computer, but things aren't working the way it is supposed to. When I'm playing or working on my computer, it tends to freeze out, but in a very strange way. For example while gaming the sound cuts out a while before the freeze, and when the freeze happens, the current window freezes but my mouse works. Nothing responds, no clicking or keyboard combination, but I can see the task manager refreshing the status of the computer like nothing wrong is happening. At first I thought I might have messed something up when I installed Windows 10 on my SSD so I reinstalled it, but it still happened after 20-30 minutes into gaming. I tried every possible option in the BIOS that could affect booting. I tried installing Samsung's newest NVMe driver, still no change, so I thought the SSD connector might have some problem. I tried to seat it into the other M.2 connector, but nothing changed. So I thought I will try it with an M.2 to PCIe adapter to see what happens, but I had the same problem again. So the next thing I thought was maybe the SSD had some problem, because my last one (PM951 512GB) worked fine! So I called the seller and he graciously replaced it. He tested the SSD and he said there was nothing wrong with it, and hopes it's not my computer. While I was waiting for the replaced part, I was using the computer with HDD and it was working just fine, so I thought it can't be the RAM, CPU nor the GPU, because if any of them were the cause of the problem, it would occur the same! So, I was confident that the SSD was faulty, but when it arrived It acted the same way as the one before did. I was also curious to see what happens if I install a game on my SSD while I have my OS on the HDD and try to game. So I tried it. I booted Windows 10 from my HDD, installed Apex Legends on my SSD and started it. When I started a match I got connected to a team, but it froze the same way it would if I booted from SSD, but this time the OS was responsive. While it happened my computer was right next to me with an open case, so I could see my SSD to PCIe adapter where the PM981 is connected and I noticed that the second red led (which flashes whenever there is some loading or reading on the SSD) stopped flashing entirely. It seemed like the SSD turned off. So I checked if the computer still recognizes it and yeah, it does. I was curious if I try to copy something into the SSD the flashing will come back, so I tried to copy a jpg file to the SSD but an error came up. It said "Invalid MS-DOS function". I have videos of it with more details which I encourage you to watch, it would put you in more context about my problem, here is the first part and here is the second part I think I literally tried everything to make it work, my BIOS settings are good, I have my power settings set to High Performance, I even added the AHCI Link Power Management option added in the power options! After talking with the seller on the phone, he said maybe I should talk to ASRock support about the problem, because maybe it has something to do with the BIOS. But they are not very helpful. Can you guys help me out with this, please? It's really frustrating??&forumCodes=True |
